whats your most thrifty box on batteries overall.
whats the biggest pig.

this just in. my m70 is the biggest pig when it comes to batteries.
i mean the set i threw in the day i got it is pretty much over and done with after only about eight hours of life at mid volumes.

now on the other hand that big digital beast the m80 is extremely thrifty on batteries.
so this is interesting to me.

both made at the same time both from the same company.

the m80 i think was the radio addicts boombox.
the m70 i think the music lovers boombox.

strange how owning the m70 has made me appreciate the m80 in a different regard.

i also think the m9998 and m9996 get very good battery life.

the m50 for sure gets better battery consumption than the seventy but not by as much as i would have thought.
it must only have about two thirds of the power as the m70 its only a guess.

basically it seems the louder and bassier the box the more power it is using to make that power.
i also find maybe its just my imagination that the lower the batteries get the more lower end rolls off into neverland.
i dont think this is all in my head. at least i hope not lol.

kabooms dt680 and other later model boombers with big bass also eat d cels like a blue whale eats plankton.
hahah.
interesting when i think about it. this m80 is extremely frugal with the batteries.
i mean this must have been one of its selling features.

the best for batteries would be the rx 5025

the worst by far is the pc 55 followed by the conion c100 and j1 super jumbo, these will eat batteries like tic tac's..

My M70 gets lots of use and I feel its really good on batteries. Panny RX-5085 is prety good on the batts. too.

By contrast, my M90 is a total battery pig.

are there recharchable big ones?

and if so, are they good in power?

Volts and amps.

or do Regular ones do a better job in WHOOMPF?

...when it comes to battey hogs the champ has to be the kaboom. It can run through 10 D batteries in well under an hour. My m9998k only uses 8 D's and lasts longer than my m50 which takes 10. Pulling 52 watts of power to support that heavy bass I don't know if any other boomer can dethrone the kaboom...

I like your posts Bill because you always put so much into them. And a lot of personality. It's kind of a rarity now days. I can't really comment because I only really use batteries to test a box. Where I live is beautiful, but I never take my boxes out, which is a shame !

I'd like to try out my little JVC PC-RM100JW's as they sound so nice and big for there size.

When I do I'll let you know

:-) thanks. i am willing to bet that those lil jvcs are extremely frugal on the batteries.

the best of all radios tho for battery life i think are the grundigs. the one i have tho is not a boombox or it would have made the list.

I have'nt had battery's in a box for 20 years, but when i did,all of my boxes chomped the battery's pretty quick..Philips 8734 used to die after about 10 minutes,GF9500 was quite good,GF575 also quite good, the best box i had on battery's was the crown sz5100,i had one whan i was about 18,used to take it out, chucked 10 battery's in it,used to last days, and that was cranking it too...

I haven't really found a battery pig, but the GF-777Z lasts a surprisingly long time on batteries - in my humble opinion.

The GF 777 is the only one that got batteries in it when the electric co was working on the cables.
I didn't wanne be without music half a day so i bought a set of D's. They were in it for a week .
I guess the thing played for a total of 10 hours with them.
I guess that this would be far less in the M 90 . 20 minutes maybe ? :hmmm:

I use rechargable D batteries and so far I have not noticed that any of my boxes does better or worse than any other one. It cost me an arm and a leg to get a good sized inventory of rechargable Ds, but now I am pretty happy since I have not needed fresh ones since last summer. Most of my non-BBX camping equipment uses Ds as well so I really get a lot of use out of them.

My RX F3 only uses batteries. I dont have a DC converter for it.
I dont remember the last time I changed them but it still works well.
It uses 6 or 8 C's I dont remember!

Battery hog, the KAboom. hands down.

All my other boxes do pretty well on bats.
