I Brought the Rising to the pool today.
All was great for about a half hour.
Good tunes ,awesome weather what more can you ask for???
How about a set of fresh D batteries???
I cant complain though I bought them and have been using them since last summer.
Rotating them between the Crown , JVC and the Rising.
Man I forgot what that feeling was like though!!! Volume decreases till there is almost no sound then,
OK Who is making a battery run??? :dunce:

Wow, Frank! You must have had super batteries for them to last that long. And what a great box to take to the pool - all that chrome must have been gleaming. I was never brave enough to take one with me to the pool at the Town Centre; too many undisciplined children around. :-/ :nonono:

Well Energizers are all I use and they seem to last a long time.
Granted I am not cranking them up or using the tape mech at all.
The three boxes I use are very efficient on batteriy usage as well.
The Rising does look great at the pool in the sunlight. One woman complimented as she was holding the gate open for us on the way in
There was also one guy walking by about broke his neck looking at it.
I mean staring!!!! even turned around to get another look. :jawdrop:
As for the kids , My son is usually one of the kids down at the Towncenter pool and they respect the box and are pretty well behaved.
So far so good in that department.

I was thinking about that a few days ago, that I need to buy some new batteries... I had mine in rotation when I take a box outside for some picture taking and don't know how much juice is left in 'em. :hmmm:

On a related note, does anybody remember the battery life indicators - press the top and bottom of the indicator with your fingers and the meter goes up if you have a full charge in the battery? Do they still make those?

Yeah, I remember those. The only batteries I remember that used them were Duracells. I haven't seen that feature in quite a while in my area.

They must've phased 'em out a few years ago... It used to hurt my fingers sometimes trying to get those indicators to work.

Great idea. Poor execution! :-/

Funny You should mention that Mono,
I used the battery level indicator on the Rising before I went out today
and saw they were indeed getting low. I know these are probably not the most accurate way to
check but at least it gives you an idea.
I remember the ones built into the battery packages as well, those were a pain

I forgot all about those... Those came out first, then they figured out a way to actually have the indicator on the battery itself.

on our drive in trips i generally get eight movies worth of sound at 66 percent volume out the batteries.
the hardest boomboxes i own on batteries are.

the panasonic dt707
the kaboom

the most frugal battery eaters are pretty much any of my sanyo boomers.

allthough not a boombox the old grundig radio i have seems to be crazy in terms of how long the batteries last.
ahh alas its almost twenty ten and we still have not figured out how to make a battery last really really long.

I tend to use either GP alkaline or Duracell batteries.

Which I get free from work :-D (within sensible limits) :-P

Fatdog,

Maybe Energiser and Duracell are the same company in some way?

Here in the UK, we've been using the Duracell bunny for years, it even has a somewhat adult-orientated quote....."to go at it like a Duracell rabbit....."

So yeah.....Same company maybe?

The only difference between Philips and Magnavox is the name........
