Uncle Ed and I had a little restoration session at his house as Tara and I are visiting for the weekend.
He has a great work bench in his garage outfitted with most every tool a boombox restorer could ever need.
So today we spent a few hours fixin on our boomboxes.
1st on the bench we opened the Clairtone 7979 to re-belt the non functioning deck.
Between the both of us we had a ton of belts and were able to replace two of the three belts.
Of course the main belt was a flat belt and between the both of us we didn't have one that fit.
After much head scratching I asked, why couldn't we use a rubber band??? So off to the office Ed went and
pulled from the drawer a flat rubber band a bit smaller in diameter from the original belt. So we used it, and it worked great!!!!
Next up to bat was a Sharp 9090 also in need of deck work and a new tweeter. We didnt have much luck with this one as it
had these weird tweeters that neither one of us had a replacement for. The deck had a melted tire in it and after searching
for a replacement we had no luck.
So after batting zero on the Sharp we closed it up and went to work on Ed's Nippon CX-473 .
It wasn't tuning very well on the FM band and not locking in stereo. The deck was not functioning properly either.
On the Deck the pause button was stuck due to a misplaced spring on the inside.
So we re belted the deck , fixed the spring on the pause and adjusted the tuner the best we could.
It now locks Stereo and picks up more Stations than it ever did. And the deck is now fully functional.
Before we closed it up I suggested we replace the crappy little disk tweeters with real ones.
so Ed ripped the old tweeters out and modded the mounts on the front casing then I soldered in the new tweets.
We had a great day fixing and got some odds and ends done . All in all it was a productive day and we got some much needed repairs out of the way.
Well Enjoy the pics and vids Im going to take a nap now.
