Been a while that I have been hanging on to my Panasonic RX-5050. The cassette deck required some parts that were missing. Well, a few days ago on eBay one popped up for 25 dollars for parts. Would not power up. So I replied with an offer of 20 dollars and it was accepted.

So the box came today and I couldn't wait to rip into it :-) Sure enough. Won't power on.

So apart it came. I removed the tape mechanism and diagnosed the no power issue. Quickly found that the power cord override switch was not making connection very well.

That box then powered up but the speakers were blown. At that point parts swapping began and I installed a new pinch roller because the last time this thing was powered down the tape was engaged and this happened to the roller

So out with the old and with a new roller

Everything starting to come together on the tape mechanism

And finally my Panasonic RX-5050 is 100% functional. Only took 2 or 3 years :-) This little dude sounds good.

So, now I have a spare RX-5050 that will play tapes but needs a pinch roller, 2 mid range speakers, an antenna and rewind spindle for the tape mechanism. It's up in the air as to what I want to do with it. Very well could go to anyone who needs parts for a RX-5050

When I have time and decide to do so, I will post it in the free section with only shipping to the 48 states. I can't bring it to throw it away.

Very cool 😎. Even the cheaper boxes are worth fixing
Very true baddboybill. My wife says its ugly but admittedly stated it sounds good.

Panasonic got it right with their Ambience circuit. This little RX-5050 is like the librarian with glasses and her hair up. When turned on, the glasses come off and the hair goes down and it's like :hmmm:

Always easy to work on! I'd guess the front comes away giving good access to all the gubbins!!
Oh yes. And my favorite. 5 screws and the whole deck comes right out the front. Literally a brainless operation on this one. I've gotten so used to working on the C100 that this was like going from level 10 to playing with a child's squeaky toy.
