Don't know why you dragged Hopey into this. I often disagree with his methods and I admittedly have been hard on him at times for what I perceived to be ill advised or dangerous advice but I've bullied no one. Although I'm sure he's opened up hundreds of boxes, knows the risks of each operation, and fully prepared for any consequences, there are frequently newbies here that might end up getting into trouble and damaging their boxes. Regardless however, I'm sure the intention has been to be helpful. Don't compare yourself to him however as I've never seen him discourage anyone from collecting anything, and I've nothing against him personally.
In case you haven't figured it out Reno, my issue is that you've forgotten that this is a forum that is for collecting and enjoying boomboxes. You seemingly put down every box except the one or two that you think is the best that money (on the dole) can buy, which now includes practically nothing except the cheap stuff. You're probably single handedly responsible for killing this hobby which seems to be waning more each day. Not everyone needs their boombox to be or sound like an M90. Some have sentimental value because it was their childhood box and probably an entry level box at that, some have graced barber shops or garage shelves blasting nothing but talk radio or sports games. Or maybe it has tons of bling and flash and stickers of fake features, but sounds like an empty egg shell fitted with shallow speakers. Or maybe it's just a lightweight crayon colored lightweight plastic thing that kids take to the beach. All these serves a purpose and maybe not to your satisfaction, but every time you say it's all crap and none are worth getting.... well you can say it's your opinion and it's free speech. Yah sure, but just stop and think about it... what are you actually contributing to the hobby? How are you making it better? Would it kill you to just say some encouraging words of support to buyers of boxes once in awhile? Even those boxes that aren't your type?
Well one thing I've learned over the years is that zebras don't change their stripes and leopards don't lose their spots. I don't expect you to change and I've nothing more to say about this topic. I'm outta here, and don't bother with a smart comeback unless it's intended for others cuz I ain't gonna see it.
