I still am working on my basket case Magnavox 8443. I have worked out most kinks and have the cassette playing, however it is playing too slow. I was hoping to find a dial that I could turn to speed it up and found this. Anyone know what it does? I tried cranking it up while the tape was playing, but thanks to an unsteady hand secondary to budlight consumption, I moved something the wrong way and blew the fuse. Back to radio shack...

Is there no set screw on the tape motor? Usually you will see a spot to insert a jeweler's screwdriver to adjust motor speed.

Yeah there is , I figured out that's what that little hole was haha. I even went out and bought a smaller set of screw drivers. Now to figure out how to adjust the screw while the tape plays... Thanks Cpl.

Tape might be playing slow due to dry pinch roller or wrong size belt. Should check those first

Update, box repaired and plays great! Could use a little more treble but oh well.
Hi,
Did you de-mag the tape head? Can make a MAJOR difference and is often over looked

Also, if the filter cap to the tweeter(s) are NP electroytics you can change those out for a high grade audio NP electrolytic or a film type if you can find one that fits

These worked well for me on a simple first order (like most bomboxes) and actually sound very nice after they've been in a day or two......best of all they are inexpensive. I got a LOT of top end back after changing mine out:

Nice looking box if the pictures I found are it!
