My wife said she wants a rechargeable Bluetooth speaker thingy for her birthday. Beats, pill, soundlink, jambox, whatever.

I was thinking maybe build one for her? Or is that a waste of time, just buy one?

Thoughts.....

Hahahaha, she specifically said "you know, something we can have in the camper or the kitchen at home. When a boombox is just too big".

I said 'never too big, woman!".

Whoa Whoa Whoa....WHAT DID SHE SAY? :-O

I know this is the mother of your children and all, but you might just want to rethink this whole marriage / family thing. I just don't see it working out :sadno: :annoyed:

Seems like a real conflict of "Our Interests"

BESIDES...how is she expected to actually hear that little noise maker while you're ROCKIN' the Wheely? :dunce:  :hmmm:

NOPE, I think it's time to move on bro....these things happen :-/

You know those weird coincidences that sometimes happen? So I looked at the last post that I hadn't read on the forum then I went to see what the email was that had just triggered my little email alert icon and it's from Bloomberg. They send me occasional things that are useful at work but it's like they were looking over my shoulder as I read this thread because, well, take a look at this: http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-10-30/how-sonos-and-john-macfarlane-built-the-perfect-wireless-speaker-for-streaming-music

So if you do want to build your own, that right there even gives you a diagram that tells you where to put all of the parts! :-D

Don't worry about this being designed for a wifi music streaming device, the speaker porting arrangements are the significant part in the sound quality so replace the complex wifi stuff with a small, portable amp from China at around $15, add a Bluetooth A2DP receiver (Amazon do an excellent own-brand one that I use and it costs around $17) or buy the amp with built-in Bluetooth, then make a copy of that enclosure, fit speakers and away you go.

Buy her a 'Canz 808" speaker can...it is SICK and lasts for a LONG time! :-D

Trust me
^^^^
At only £20 for one of these here in the UK, :jawdrop: I can see the appeal of the thing!

My son has the canz. That sucker with the right song on will walk across the table.
Myself I got a big jambox on eBay for about 120. Shipped.
Sucker cranks and has a battery life of about 12 hours or so on a full charge

Yeah...but wait until you HEAR it...it is the perfect speaker with HUGE sound for it's size...mine can bounce/dance around on my table or floor :-D

Hmm, noise and movement eh? Ooh, just the thing for today's busy lady around town. I can see my woman finding an alternative use for that!

I'd recommend you only build your own if performance is your most important criteria. If not then just buy one of the mass produced and very nice looking little numbers. :-)

I know exactly what you mean and why you want one. I love my Rising but every night when I give my son a bath, I need something small and effective to play some music. And with the way my son splashes water around, I don't want my Grail anywhere near those suds. I have an iPhone so I needed something I could dock to get a charge and have Bluetooth. I went with this Sony RDP-XF300iPN

It was over a year ago so I can't remember how much I paid. But I do know I went back 6 months after I bought it and it was $100 off.

It works great and does the job. I needed something that could dock my iPhone 5 at the time and this did. It also gets FM radio stations. So if your wife has an iPhone 5 or 6, I would highly recommend you consider this unit.

^^^^^I just checked eBay and there are quite a few for sale of these Sony RDP-XF300iPN. Prices range from $70 to $250.

I say get her what she wants Joe, we get what we want all year long with our boombox scores, trades, etc...So when my wifey wants or asks for something specific, I don't hesitate to splurge ;-) She puts up with me, so she deserves it haha

I would get her something that sounds like total ****. Then tell her you bought the best one they make. Then bust out the m70 and be like, sorry honey....it don't get no better than this.
Of just throw those divorce papers on the table and see if she calls your bluff.

When I was writing this post I knew I was going to get heat for it.

2 things in my defense:
1) Using this device prevents my beloved boombox from getting ruined.
2) I purchased that device way before I started collecting boomboxes. So what am I supposed to do now? Through it away? On second thought, don't answer that! 😳

Btw, thanks for not going to hard on me for using the "D" word!

Oh she'll call the bluff...and take all his stuff in the process! INCLUDING THE RADIOS! :-O

They make some little can sized speakers, get her one of those, that will make her happy :-D
