Anyone ever try to modify the current Lasonic i931BT (with rechargeable battery)?

So, I do not have the cash to buy one of the old classics. Even the ones which do not work.

I tried the GPO Brooklyn. Not for me. Sound is below par.
I tried the GPO Manhattan. Nice sound, but the small 4" woofers just do not scream 80's boombox. The large woofer grills are deceiving. That bugs me. And the eq display is a worthless toy providing no useful function.

I am considering the new Lasonic i931BT with rechargeable battery. The rechargeable battery is a big plus, for me. I'm fine with a few hours of playing time. I know its quality will be well under-par as compared to the classics of the past. And Lasonic is no longer Lasonic, to boot.

However, this model is about 26" wide by 14" tall, making it fairly close in size to the big JVC M90 or the big Crowns.
And, it is the only one featuring the distinctive 8" woofers, which does scream 80's.

From a youtube video, I see the internal cab is sealed, making for left and right separate sealed sub-enclosures.

I am wondering, has anyone had good luck modifying this design?

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking I'd add 1" polyfil damping to each side and a small coil to limit woofer response to around 3-4 khz. The cost to modify would be minimal. Maybe add a thin 2-3 mm layer of closed cell foam to the inside rear panel of each speaker enclosure.

I would then play the Lasonic with the preset eq set to FLAT and the 5-band eq set to a Munson curve, more or less, with 100 Hz at 0 dB and mid freqs at maybe -3 to -5 dB, depending on how it sounds.

Any opinions?
Has anyone messed with this unit as such?

Just wondering.
I can't afford spending $100's, if not $1,000's on 40 year old units. There's just too much risk involved.

The Lasonic woofers look decent, for what they are. And the graphic eq offers a little hope of customizable sound. And I no longer expect hifi sound. Just a decent balance without undue listener fatigue.
Thx in advance
