I was at a Christmas party yesterday and heard these loud, bass filled Christmas carols filling the room. When I searched for the source I was VERY surprised to find them coming from this ugly little Sony explode. I looked closer and although I really do not like the looks of this little boomer the sound could not be ignored. The highs and mids were very pleasant and the bass was VERY solid and would easily embarrass most one piece boomers except for the kaboom. I was wondering if any of you have one as the price for a new one is a surprisingly low $100. Those of you who own them I would love to hear your thoughts as I am contemplating purchasing one.

I think Ghettoboom has a couple of these. I'm not sure if it was the 505, but the one he had at the 2009 Sunshine Mix was nice.

They probably do sound great but those Xplode boxes are hideous! If one were given to me, I'd give it back... with the quickness! :-D

I've always felt same way about the Kaboom, but not as strongly. Regardless of how much bass they put out, I could NEVER see myself owning one. Sometimes, sound isn't everything.

there is one model of that series of the sony that sounds pretty good.
its too bad tho sony could not have taken the guts from that box and chucked it into the big red worksite box they have been selling the last couple of years. if they did that and ditched the red paint job it could have been amazing.

i think these sonys for the price make a ok little sound solution for a student on a tight budget or the casual user that justs wants a small loudish stereo.

it can pretty much blow aways anything in its price class available today .
its funny how in the eighties many of the boomboxes took styling cues from cars.
gauges chrome trim and such. it would appear now that modern boxes like this one seem to be taking styling cues from modern jet fighters.
one would think this would have been cool but it just does not translate very well.
where the panasonic dt707 excellent in wierd spacey design this one just drifts a little bit to far into looking like a prop from a modern scifi movie.
looks aside it can hang with a lot of the vintage boxes in terms of sound but cant really hit as hard as any of the higher end units.

That's a 2006-8' model.
I have the CFD-G500 which is nice-looks very similar but no wierd stuff in ther middle.
Sounds really decent good line-in to!
Just different looking.
Have a CFD-G55 which is 2003 model not as loud & powerful as the G-500.
They're ok but the older the better!!
Have a good one-GB. :-)
