I know this site is mainly for collecting and classic models but is there anything out there decent? With the improvement in speaker quality and amplifier quality and efficiency since the early 1980's you would think it would be possible.

My friend has an insanely ugly DeWalt jobsite radio that sounds great. Great battery life with the lithium ion packs.

Thanks

Here's an interesting comparo between the TDK boombox and Dr. Dre Beatbox:

I think they are both CR@P!

Really, the Monster is not a boombox, it's speaker! Does the iPod lock in place? No batteries? I have speakers....why would I want this for $400?

The TDK is almost there....but no place to put your mp3 player? How do I huff it down the street? I can say from using an mp3 player and wire plugged into my blaster, that it makes picking it up and moving on a hassle. I have to tear it all down, then set it all back up at the next location OR struggle to carry it all while on the go!

NOPE!, No sir, I don't like it!

Nice review. I had a chance to listen to the Dr Dre Beatbox and the bass and overall sound were impressive...but a Kaboom destroys it on bass. I think the hefty price on the TDK will keep its sales down so I will wait for a price reduction before I get one. As far as modern boomboxes the Altec 800 and latest Kaboom seem to be the best choice for quality sound and portability with an honorable mention going to the Lasonic i931x.

It's also very easy on D cells and sounds AWESOME!!!!!
Does this really have a handle  I cant tell from pictures of it :hmmm:
Yes Bill it does have a nice sturdy handle on top. It does not move, but it has one. There is also two front mounted handles on each side of the box itself.

If we get together sometime Bill, I'll bring mine along so you can play with it,
Ask Spud and Blu-Fuz,I thought their mouths were going to drop on the floor when I fired up the Altec. They were impressed..........

I just wrote a thread on how I fixed my Sangean U3 portable work site box - only one speaker, and it's fugly as hell, but it sounds perty... and it has fantastic am reception.
