Hi all,
I thought if anyone can it would be you guys on here. I am trying find out what my very first box was that I got one Christmas when I was young but unfortunately I don’t have any pictures and can’t remember the make. Here’s what I remember. (I’m in the uk)
firstly you couldn’t really call it a boombox. It was called a radio cassette recorder and was mono. I must have got it between 79-81 as I remember recording the top 40 on radio 1 when it was Steve Wright. It was all plastic I think grey possibly brown. A chunky box about 10” wide and abut 10” high. It didn’t have a handle it had a long brown fabric shoulder strap. The cassette was on the front (left side I think) with the speaker on the other side. Chunky square plastic tape buttons on the top, think one might have been red or orange. Big tuner dial on the right side. Do think it was a big brand and probably came for Dixon’s (I don’t think it was saisho) or Argos.
I would love to be about to find out what it was and track one down. I’ve never been able to find a picture. Really interested to see what ideas you might have.

Hi All,
So I spent all day on google searching yesterday looking through 100s of random pictures, nothing quite right. Then this morning I found it.
It was a Prinzsound Clubman.
Compared to some of the amazing boxes out there this is pretty naff, I was never fortunate as a kid to own a “real” Boombox. But it brings so many memories back of sitting on the floor in my bedroom making and listening to tapes and then later on taking it apart to see how it worked.(maybe the start of my Boombox restoration ).

Not sure if I will find one as never seen one come up, but you never know.

Many thanks for all your suggestions.

Ah, you meant speaker on the backside. Set your searches up on ebay and audiomart for notifications. Hope you find it.

Thanks Stynger007, to be honest I couldn’t remember where the speaker was until I saw the pictures. I have already set up the eBay alerts, so hopefully one will come up one day. I found reference to about three coming up over the last 3 years so let’s see.

Nice radio. Not for nothing as nothing can be worth something, but that is a cool looking unit! Regardless of what kind of radios we started out with, the best part is the memories of how we enjoyed them. You describing sitting on the floor making tapes is exactly what I did. I didn't get the radio I was begging for (A Lloyds component cassette) but the Sanyo M9935k which is me in the avatar was just as amazing once I got over it! I found one in mint condition and modified it for bluetooth use. Best of luck in your search. And as has been mentioned, go treat yourself to some cool radios that parents could simply not afford and start your collection!

That is all so true. Even when I just found a picture of the radio it brought back so many memories. I will keep looking and hopefully one day I will own it again.

Indeed. My twin brother and I initially each had a Sony CFS210 but we combined some money, bought and shared a Sharp WF-T380. The memories ...

We emigrated. And left, obviously, our boombox, but I bought us each one when I joined this forum.
