So...only got into this six years ago. Bought 4 boxes with a combined age of 167 or something. Thought that would be enough servicing work...and it was!
My big box, the Goldstar tsr800/801, just sounded grey and flat to me though, which was really annoying - it should have sounded the best. Recently i put three Nichicon Fine Gold caps in each audio channel, starting from the pre-amp chip out. I also changed the old tweeter caps to Monacor ones some years ago.
Difference is chalk and cheese. Favourite setting is stereo wide with the loudness switch most definitely on.
The radio behind is my dad's first radio, a Bush DAC10 from 1950. Not been switched on for thirty years, all i had to do was clean the switches and bingo. Still got all the original paper wax capacitors that everyone tells you to rip out. Gives me a thrill to have it still working and original!
