Hi. I'm new to the forum and I'm new to the Boombox restoration. I have experience in audio equipment such as turntables and more "mechanical" devices
I'm from Spain ... so my English is bad (sorry).
A week ago I bought a SANYO M9998LU. The radio worked fine, but I needed new belts. I still did not know where I was getting into !!
Finally I got to the pulleys and I got the belts on. I reconnected everything again (you know you have a lot of connectors). The radio worked but the cassette seemed to have some problem ... it did not sound, but I still had everything disassembled, I just fixed the connections.
I kept trying to solve the problem of the cassette, but now I have found that once solved (apparently) the mechanical problem of the cassette system, I have no radio sound or cassette! The tuning vumeter does not respond either ... so it seems that it does not pick up any signals in any of the bands

I tested the DIN5 input with the smartphone and it sounds good ...
I checked all the connections (I took many photos) and also the pin connections between the plates that can go unnoticed. Everything seems OK ...
I do not know where I can find the problem ... and my wife no longer wants this huge boombox opened in the house ... I do not know whether to give up and forget about him or make a last attempt (I do not know what that can be ). I feel sorry that once the hardest thing is done I can not now know if I've been close to getting the full repair. I suspect that if I get the FM to sing the cassette will also.

Thanks!!

The 9998 is a pain to rebelt and there are many issues you could run into. One of the big ones is when seperating the two boards there are some pins that have to go back into their mounting exactly right, look down between to two rear boards and you will see them, that is the most common cause of the issue you described. THere are also many connectors that are easy to over look but my guess it its the first issue.

I have one here i need to belt, if i do it this week end i will take some pics.

Hi, thanks!

The connections between the boards have been checked and are well aligned. So the problem must be in another less obvious place unfortunately.
What I do not understand is that it does not tune in to any band. One thing is that the speakers do not sound (in fact emit noise if I touch the pcb in some points) and another that receives signal.
It is a hard device to manipulate. Everything is very tight and I am afraid of having disconnected something that is not visible to the naked eye. I have already said that it has been all from one moment to another. The radio worked fine and suddenly stopped working while trying to adjust the deck.
These days I have connected and disconnected so many times this device that I no longer have big problems with that. I still have the doubt that if I can repair this problem I will be able to return all the guts to their place and close this damn box!
