L Lopez jogged my memory with his recording problem so I thought I'd best post mine before I forget.

One 3 or 4 of my blasters, all different brands, I have a problem when recording from the built in microphones as the source. Namely theres a loud hum that is constantly present in the recording when played back. Where I've had the chance to use an external one it's not there, or substantially reduced, but I've not get enough plug combinations to use my mic on all of them.

I use mine for recording from mic to tape every day at work, so this would be great to get fixed up, or let me know if I should just get external mic's set up for all the radios I take to work.

Thanks for your time guys

it could be anything from ground related to bad caps bad solder joints or leaky transistors but on the other side it could be cleaning needed but for what i have seen like on a sanyo i had it was bad solder joints on another box it was bad caps , remember sometimes it can be a simple thing but it can also need some deep technical work

Thanks Ramon your the greatest and I will get to see if deep cleaning would do the work, Wish me luck :-D

If using an external mic, try spraying some DeOxit into the mic inputs and work the input a few times by inserting and pulling out the mic jack. Be sure and the boombox turned off and unplugged (just in case).

If you are recording fine with external mics and having a hum with internal mics, then what you most likely have is a mic cabling problem. Either a ground is open (broken connection) or a short. Either way, look at the condensor mic and you'll see a small guage shielded cable that goes to the circuit board. Check it. Again, there is probably a short or a broken ground shield wire, bad solder joint, whatever.

I do not believe this is the same problem as what Lopez is encountering.
