Had this box for years and never touched it.

Helix 4630

Perfect boombox design and actually sound pretty dang good. All i did was clean it and remount the power cord outlet. The sound would cut out and back in on the left side. I deoxed everything and now there is no sound out of the left speaker. I'm tired of working on it, maybe i will look at it again in a couple years ha!

I agree, what did you use to clean the chrome so well?

I used nev'r dull on the chrome. Makes quick work of the crud.

It is not fully functional. The cassette deck was all loosened up and might be missing some bits. I tightened it down so it won't rattle.

I did go back inside it to look for obvious problems for the left sound not working. I did find a broken solder joint for the headphone jack.

Flowed the solder and now I have some left side sound again but about 1/2 as loud as the right side :-/.

I give up for now.

They are a great classic design for sure.

I've enjoyed mine ( Candle 1287 version) for may years tho it does need the deck worked on.

Don't give up , ( like you would, haha) and get back @ 'er at some point when ya can.

^ I'll even send you a PM to notify you of the new thread! Hahaha

I wanted to note how massive the tweeters are. Biggest that I remember in any blaster I have opened up. I used goo gone to scrub the dried up duct tape off the rear case. Turned out better that I was planning.

I would swap the main board from my candle version but it would need the power switch and a few toggle switches swapped from this helix. Not impossible but not in the mood.

Always keep parts away from toddlers. If they happen to see tiny pieces of solder, screws, washers etc they will swallow it. Solder is so dangerous because of lead content in it.

Don't have kids near your work area. I caught my GSD puppy running away with my scotch tape roll. He likes to chew on anything he can access. He has lots of chew toys but still wants new things to chew on.

The kids are fine. They don't eat random stuff but my boy will stab a screwdriver into anything! Hahaha
