Howdy all, this is a grand find.. a forum dedicated to my new interest..classic boomboxes. 10min here and i've seen some of the maddest boxes ever - 3 decks! multi-directional speakers... and essexboy's gargantuan promax.

i've recently decided to start collecting and have just picked up a classic champagne majestic ( mcr-8570 - great pic from fatdog here https://boomboxery.com/forum/search.php?keywords=majestic&submit=Search ) and the slightly off track sony cf-610 (not so much a boom box as portable studio unit) - starting to wonder how deep this rabbit hole goes (deeper than my pockets i suggest)

Good to see there's a healthy interest in the art here in NZ - maybe run into a few of you cats around the traps sometime

drop me a line anytime

cheers
Dobbo

incidentally - on the back of the majestic is a switch for 'beat 1' and 'beat 2' - anybody know what this is for?

the second deck has some playing trouble so looks like i'll be diggin up belt and restoration info here too.

Welcome Dobbo, there's plenty of collectors in the southern hemisphere, and there's a healthy trade balance between New Zealand and Australia.

thanks for the warm welcomes everyone - had to drop out for a while there but am back with a couple of additions to my collection - picked up an orion model no/ 411 (yep, i got the 411!) with sick alloy grills - missing a tape deck door so will go looking for one of these soon - and a national panasonic mid sizer in sweet condition which really does what it says on the box - also has medium and shortwave frequencies with tuning and fine tuning which is pretty cool - guessing i can pick up all sorts of cab driver chit chat on this.

seen a couple of monster boxes around but i'm between dollars so might have to sit tight for a while unfortunately - missed out on a mean box last week that went for $136NZD and had a black and white tv in it!!

cheers

Welcome, your up against some healthy competition in NZ on the collecting front.

Don't go to hard on TV boxes unless you want to mod it, after 2013 it won't pick up your local TV stations :-)
