I say ALMOST because what I received today was an empty box. Yes, that's right, it was empty. Post Office stamped it "received unsealed, without contents."

So what I thought I was getting was the GE equivalent (OEM'd) Sharp GF-9797. Not the box highest on my wish list but the price was right. Of course, now, all I have to look forward to is going to the post office, filing claim, all to make sure the seller gets his money back so he can hopefully refund my money. I say insurance protects the seller only -- Does absolutely nothing for me. All I get is wasted time and effort. Guy was too cheap to even at least wrap cellophane tape all the way around. Instead, only a few pieces where the opening of the box was. I guess, it's probably good thing the boombox was missing because the box was hardly bigger than my GF-9494 and I'm guessing that this box is equally large so it probably wouldn't be in very good shape even if it did somehow manage to find it's way here. I also see remnants of what looks like paper based packing material again. Can't stress how much I hate transactions like this..........

Bought it on the bay. Seller's user id is iluvelectronics. Ironic, isn't it?

I didn't offer my packing/shipping instructions because the seller had 100% feedback. However, a boombox as large as a GF-9797 needs to be packed well. I guess it just turned into a battering ram and busted through the gate ("side of box") like a bucking rodeo bull, blasting through the gate.

On the flip side, how can the Post Office not put 2 and 2 together and put the radio back into the box? Do you just say Oh, look, a free boombox and not even look for the empty cardboard box?

......Received an empty cardboard box?

That sux.

Something doesn't seem right there.

Somewhere in the postal system, there's an un-packaged boombox sitting around, missing its owner. :'-(

......Unless that is, the poor thing was kidnapped.

All I can say is, I hope that they find your boomer.

I cannot imagine trying to explain this to the seller.......

Yeah, I got the box, but it was empty. Where's the boomer?

If the seller put the boomer in the package, and handed it to the post office, then betwen him and you, there's a loose boomer out there somewhere.

I wonder how the post office are going to wriggle out of this one?

I definitely feel for you man, that totally bites hard.
are you going to buy another box to replace the feeling of getting a new box that you were denied?

Cheers OSS :annoyed:

That sucks but that was my first thought, when it broke out of the corral nobody noticed? I guess it's possible it happened where no one was watching but???

In looking at the box, it's quite clear that all of this could have been avoided 100% if the seller would've just stuck an extra 50 cents worth of tape all around the box. That would have prevented this entirely. The box is a re-used box for some other electronic device that is really pretty looking but not the type of box to use to effect shipping with. Upon closer examination, it is a collection of cut cardboard that has a paper veneer around the whole thing, sort of like wallpaper. Unlike a regular cardboard box that is creased/bent to make the box, the strength of this one depends 100% on the paper exterior. You can think of it as being wrapped/veneered like a christmas present only the wrapping is the only thing holding it together.

Anyhow, I know what will happen. The box is lost forever and now, I've got to fight to get my money back and in the interest of cooperation, I'm sure I'll have to go to the post office, wait in line, file claim forms -- all for what? Just to get back to square 1. I'm putting this 100% on the seller. No way any buyer will have to experience this if only it was packed right and completely avoidable.

As for getting another boombox to replace the lost feeling, all I can say is if Henry will sell me his M90, then I'm done. Or at least, I keep saying that.

That sucks no matter what, your right that puts it on the seller. I really doubt if USPS will pay a claim against something like that and it's easy to see why. Paypal is your only friend here if you used it.

OK, here are the pics of the empty box.

Looks good so far. Until you pick it up and find that it feels awfully light for a GF-9797.

Taking a closer look at the bottom, I see something is not quite right...

See what I mean about the box being assembled with square cut cardboard? These boards are hard and doesn't compress much -- like what you would expect the covers of a hardcover book to be. See the paper that holds the cardboard together. The boards may feel sturdy but the paper is the only thing on all corners and edges.

This view shows that not all is well in paradise.

Went to the Post Office today for the second time. Yesterday, the claims dept was closed. Today, I go there and am told that they don't handle claims anymore -- I need to do this online. What a bummer and a total waste of my time. I'm about a razor thin close to filing a paypal claim now. Problem is that the item arrived so it may complicate things since the Post Office is going to show that the item was delivered. What it won't say is that the box was empty. :bang:
