well i was lucky enough to get ahold of a Panasonic RX-DS660.. these are quality boomboxes.. i've owned quite a few over the years.. but one major issue was the woofers.. didnt care for the look.. kinda bland.. also these are notorious for foam rot.. in fact any of the 10 or so different mentioned models that i have owned over the years all had speaker foam rot.. problem is.. sure you can refoam.. pain in the butt trust me.. or you can prey to the gods above that there is an exact replacement driver.. these units had a different and unique woofer design.. so finding a replacement would be lucky indeed..

well..

i did find a replacement woofer.. and i'm here to show you where to find it.. :-)

they are 4 ohm.. not 2.7.. but the amp can handle up to 8 ohm load.. granted they might need a little more volume to get the same effect.. but you really can beat having a replacement pair for $20.. plan on buying 2-3 sets for future replacements..

here's a few sample pics.. the boombox is in pieces atm so havent done a sound check.. but you can already see this is a vast improvement over the originals..

Thats good replacing the woofers but as for me,i only enjoy replacing poor quality ones,as for those pana's,i would rather have refoamed them, the foams would have only cost $20 or less and you keep the history and originallity of it..and once refoamed, they would be as good as new and will live on for at least another 20 years to come :-)
RIP pana woofers :-/

Weren't the old speakers coaxial? That looks like a tweeter cone on the original. I have similar speakers (original) in my Vector VM-100 and it has no dedicated tweeters. Does your Panasonic have real tweeters? If not, I would think you're going to lose some sound quality. Just an observation... ;-)

they call it a wizzer cone.. and yes technically it does have tweeters.. though there just piezo.. i really dont see losing anything in the process.. and to me they look much better with the chrome caps.. i'll be putting it together later on today.. so an answer as to wether the new speakers can compete.. we will just have to wait and hear..

oh btw i didnt really mention it.. but the new speakers fit like a glove.. no modification required..

and FD.. no they are not co-axial

Hello:

I know this is an old post, but you had a link to some replacement woofers you had bought for your Panasonic RX-CT900. Unfortunately the link is dead. Would you happen to know the model number of the speakers or where your purchased them? I'm trying to find a replacement for mine, but the shape of the enclosure is an issue.

Thanks in advance!
