i was thinking about so many boxes ,, we talk about sometimes basicly the same ones m90 m70 gf-777 conion c100 lasonic 931,, just to name a few but we can pic a box that basiclly no one has maybe a sellected few and start a topic about that box,,, there are so many so how about the sharp gf-555,, i have one but no one really mentions it is it that bad

I have the Japanese version of the GF-555, the GF-818.

Soundwise it's more a "Rock" box I think (Hendrix sounds great on it), with none of the refinement that my National RX-5700 has. The GF-818 is built like a tank, and is heavy, far heavier than the GF-9494 for example.

I like mine, but to carry it around is telling on my poor old arm muscles.

thats a nice one even thou it sound pretty good but i think that everyone just likes that round speaker grill look with chrome cap,, i belive there was a model that has see though speaker grills ,, but still these boxes do still sound good the weight may be a problem but concider the conion c100 thats a heavy box right there.....

When I was in Japan a month or so ago I saw allot of the GF-555 and 666 models for sale. I have looked at these allot, but they are EXPENSIVE here in the states. There is a 555 and 666 on ebay right now, or just was. I was eye balling them, but then I laid down money on a new HUGE radio that is on the way right now. Can't speak about it yet....But I can't wait till it shows up! he he he he!

They are not underrated or ignored. The problem with them is that they don't really exist and are merely rumors.

I think your right monchito, gotta widen our discussions a bit. i know we are all hiding a ton of boxes in the closet! I like the 555 looks, but it took a minute. Performance wise not bad, not much bass for how enormous it is, but nice clear sharp sound and pretty darn heavy. Mine is super clean too, but needs some silcone tube replacements for the decks, that dreaded sharp goo...

Im seriously looking at a 555 for my next purchase so its handy reading all the comments. Size wise, how big are they compared to a sharp 575 also compared to a sharp 777.
