Pretty cool, just wish the VU meters still worked, I'd maybe have placed the screen elsewhere. Overall?

That's pretty slick!
When you said "destroyed" I imagined a box getting smashed into a million pieces..
Me too, my heart was thumping! :w00t:

The thing that caught my eye the most was the rotary digital tuner - how cool is that, huh? Every other digital tuner I have come across consists of +/- buttons that need to be pressed and pressed and pressed and pressed and pres................... I find this absolutely infuriating. The tuning system on this particular box would be something I'd be more than happy with.

Maybe on the left , tho I do not know the internals of this box, and kept the original tuner display intact

Not fussy on it myself, but if that screen could be connected to the tuning mechanism and moved with the knob. . . . . that would be better !

Kudos for the knob innovation however.

Different reactions than I expected (except mancardo). What I was trying to get across is they took one of the rarest, high-end, high priced beauitiful classic boomboxes and cut a square right in the moiddle of the tuner dial. That's what I meant when I said destroyed.

In my opinion, these mods should be done on a magnavox d8443, or hundreds of others, but not cut a hole in what I would consider 1 of 10 grails.

Anyways, they can do what they want to their box. They can smash it with a sledge hammer if they want. It just personally shocked me:)

I agree, I mean I'd never do this myself, a lesser box woukd have been a much better choice. However, sometimes I think it's cool when someone does something because they want to, and not worry about what others would think. Definitely could have came out worse, perhaps the title had me expecting the worst and I ended up being surprised by a unique modification!

Yeah I dunno. I also wouldn't ever do it myself, but I haven't yet found the Big Ben all that appealing either. The placement looks very odd, but I get its in line with the tuner knob. Kind of a cool mod I guess but looks odd.

Yeh I wouldn't do it to a Big Ben either but it's a pretty slick job...I like the rotary switch conversion, very clever

I think its clever modding but a terrible choice of box to do it to. The screen placement right in the middle of the tuner dial just looks strange to. The tuning knob thing is pretty clever however.

Good upgrade, but I don't like place of lcd screen.
Must be better on the left side between power switch and SANYO label.

How rare is the Big Ben? It's a box I've always wanted to have, but I've never run across one for sale, and I have never even seen one in person. I know a lot of people don't care for them, but I'm thinking they have to be one of the rarest boxes ever.

Err couldn't you just velcro a ipod to the back and run a y cable into the RCA Jacks. Seems kind of like a waste of time and effort
