Got a Aiwa XP-EV500 portable CD player for $1.

It was released in 2003, so it has the 2003 Aiwa logo on it.

According to the service manual. it is based on the Sony D-EJ760 series.

Like Sony's CD Walkman it has bass boost and anti-shock protection-instead of being known as "MEGA BASS" and G-Protection, on Aiwa cd players these are known as :
DSL (Dynamic Super Loudness)
On the XP-EV500, this is 2 stage
E.A.S.S. GP

Like many CD Walkman models, this Aiwa model can play CD-R/RW discs.

Controls are mainly located on the top, with sound/play mode buttons and a 4 way controller for play/stop/next/previous tracks.

Around the sides are the open slider, volume control (buttons instead of a rotary dial) and a hold switch.

Inside is the switch for E.A.S.S. GP, which has two settings.

Considering this Aiwa model was produced by Sony, you'd expect the sound quality to be similar to some 2003 CD Walkman-and it is very much so.

Aiwa's Dynamic Super Loudness is just as good as Sony's own MEGA BASS-in fact the bass boost feature sounds indentical in my opinion.

Interesting.59 hour playback :w00t: ?Very efficient!Does this model have a line level output jack or just a headphone jack? These portables are great for playing CDs through a boombox.I like the portability.Of course you need a box with line input jacks to do this.
