I picked this up for a cheap price off eBay but it had issues.
The deck was none working, the left channel more or less dead and it didn't work on batteries.

Thanks to huge help from Norm this now is 100% fully working.
The pics don't really do this unit justice to be honest, it is a rocker !!!

Beautiful, Docs!! Really lovely unit that.
How do they sound compared to other Aiwas of similar size?

I do have one.. but it went straight to my repairers about a year ago, so I've not yet had the pleasure...

Not too sure Glue, this is the only Aiwa I have. But in comparison to other units of similar size this one is up there, it has a very nice sound with plenty of bass.
I'd say its one of the, if not THE, best sounding of this size in my collection and thats going against the Toshiba RT-S932.

Wow docs, thats a great looking Aiwa and theres nothing like a 100% working box. I love those long toggle switches.
Btw, that cat didnt want to show his/her face did he/she :lol:

I think the 990 is one of the classiest looking boxes ever made, no cheese was added to this model. :nonono:

docs that is truely a awesome box :drool: :drool: ,,i am glad u finally got it working, in the sams token i need to finish mine,,but yes its a loud and great sounding bass,, and to be honest aiwas dont disapoint :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I catch one yesterday, but I can´t make myself disassemble inside.
Mine only works on Line Out, power directly when power cord is connected, any radio bands working and tape door not open (stop eject switch is locked).

Can you help me with disassemble inside???
