Hi bud cheers for that. You might be able to figure out replacement pots that would work in place of the originals.
There's a guy on ebay parting out a 950 which I assume would work on the 955.
Could be a little expensive but he has obo so you might be able to work out a deal.
Since it's a 950, the knobs and switch covers are black.
Cheers bud. I've always loved AIWA stuff.Had a Tpr950 years ago, they are Awesome stereos, they sound beautiful, Loud with Decent bass. Yours is well worth repairing.
Are you saying that I can solder on the pots, but the originals had something else in it?The 955 appears to use volume pots with a midpoint tap, for the loudness control circuit. I see orange and green wires coming off the left and right channel sections of the volume pot for the tap. You can replace them with conventional pots but you will no longer get boosted bass at low volumes.
Thanks, I see what you mean now - I've just taken the stereo apart and replaced the mushy rubber band to the counter. The originals are special pots with an additional connection at the midway point, so it can tap into a loudness circuit that boosts bass on the first half of the volume range. They are not very common anymore but if you look hard enough you might find a suitable replacement.
What you might try to do is replace the shaft on your original pot.
That's a great job .The mod is done.
All 3 tape belts are done, but Jesus what a nightmare!
Nah.Thanks guys. I suddenly realised I might get slated because of the light mod.
The reason for the felt is to keep the light from lighting up the rest of the boombox. That's a nice radio Tinman!, slightly better condition than mine.
Jealous you have the Volume & Balance knobs! I honestly think they will be a nightmare to source and even if I do find them they are going to be £££.
I've ordered some silver knobs that hopefully will fit in with the look of the unit, fingers crossed.
Just to add, I've noticed that the 950 service manual also showed some black felt over the top of the VU meters to stop the light bleeding through, but not sure where it would bleed into?
I've added some black tape across both anyway.
Yes, I'll chuck a photo across once it's done
I can't see where as the front of the case is black? The only thing I can think of is the light bleeding into the red & yellow 'peak' LEDs just under it?The reason for the felt is to keep the light from lighting up the rest of the boombox.
