Hi bBoxery!

First of all, sorry if this post is in the wrong table but somone might help me correct it.
Anyway ive always had this fascination with all kind of boomboxes for many years
but never had the money to buy a fancy oldschool boombox.

But last week when i went thru my grandmothers garage i saw she had a Aiwa tpr-950e
stuffed between boxes. ofc i could have it, she didn't even know it was there.

Well its not even close to mint condition and the battery lid is gone, but the sound is speechless
its so amaz...(i dont have to explain, everyone knows what its like)

But here's the main question, is it possible to hook it up to an mp3/other 3,5 device?
becuase i dont own any cassettes at all and the radiostations never plays anything good in sweden.

Also, is it possible to solder something and bypass any part to get the music flowing?
sorry for my english, it needs some work. well im out

It should either have Line In RCA-style inputs, or a REC/TB/PU input for a 5-pin DIN cable.

How come. The US, had RCA sockets on their boxes, and, europe, had DIN? This was alway`s noticeable on aiwa`s.

What settings are marked on the radio / tape switch? Does it have a "line in" or "aux" setting?

Looks like it only has phono. You will have to buy 2 things, a cable with an MP3 jack on one end and a 5-pin DIN jack on the other end. You will also need to buy a phone - line-in attenuator, because the signal from an mp3 player needs to be modified before it goes into the Phono input.

Or you could just buy one of those cassette tapes with a wire that plugs into your mp3 player. But then you would need to press Play to hear it.

It has two DIN inputs. One for phono (lower) and one for tape (upper, marked with O_O).
I think that both inputs are active when you set function switch on the phono position.
First You should try to connect only through tape input with DIN - RCA adapter, like this:

If you get this unsuccessful, then you have to try like Reli says.
In the both case you'll need to use that DIN - RCA adapter.

Hi and welcome to Boomboxery mrbosnien!!!

Why not try and do a Bluetooth mod to it brother? That way you don't need cables at all! :w00t: ;-)
Here is a link:

If you do decide to open the Aiwa up and do some simple soldering,
here is a wiring diagram to help you, your is a 5-Pin DIN input
(I'm not 100% sure this is the correct wiring, but please
correct me if I'm wrong anyone!) I think the ones that
interest you are the numbers in red?

Finally, you could just make your life easier and buy this and use your .MP3 Player or Phone and voilá!!!

hiho, i got the same aiwa, and din works .. well i had a lil trouble that this aiwa has a veeeeerrryy sensitiv input, so my mp3 player had to be on nearly no volume, i tried to hook up my aiwa 660 paralel with an rca to 2xrca adapter but this one had a very unsensitive input..

so i used a passiv line in / phono converter for the aiwa 950 and both played together--

im not sure but it seemed to me the 950 has a din socket but its still phono.. well weird, but a rca to/din cable will enagle u to plug in your mp3 player... aaahh ok seems to be my 3 crappy din/rca cables are only 3 pin and also crap
ill definetly buy this super high quality cable.. seems to be only avaible in the uk, really crazy i cant find any comparable stuff in germany ;)

seeya, daniel.. and its a super good sounding and awesome looking box, looks like a transformer from the Deceptercons ;)

3 pin is in only, 5 pin is in & out. I would not worry about a "super high quality cable" it's only going into a boombox, if you want a better cable make one, it would be cheaper and better quality than standard store brought. If you want to buy a good one try Chord [ebay]http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Chord-iChord-3-5mm-Minijack-5-Pin-DIN-NEW-1m-/251126394559?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3a784caebf[/ebay]

Im Back! and in full effect :breakdance:

I did as u guys recommended and bought myself a cord, but
the store dident have the exact 3.5 to 5pin DIN. I had to get it
in two pieces, first 5pin DIN to RCA(r&w) and then RCA to 3.5.
Everything works great, but the boombox seems very sensetive
to how loud/high the volume is on the mp3/phone. If i have it to
loud it the sound starts to break down like if the speakers were
blown.

It just need some extra time to configurate but its no doubt worth it!

Thanks for all the answers now i just need some new antenas ;D
