I just shipped a box to Austrailia few weeks ago, not a BIGGIE, but they quoted me $5X.xx - next day show up with box and they say $7X.xx.... I paid some of the shipping for the BBX member here  ;-) . $10 out of my pocket :-/

Straps cost 2x normal price to ship to Austrailia compared to shipping anywhere else in the world! No joke, just sent 2 straps to a member there too.

it was fedex and dhl that quoted the 350 -

perhaps the post office would be alot less --
BUT
who would TRUST their insurance on a $$$$ biggie ???

I don't know what's going on, the shipping companies seem to make up their own rules with their rates.

Best of luck to those currently making deals, and I hope a consistent avenue for shipping is found soon!

Rock On.

Hmmmmm.... I got a good friend in Sydney right now, maybe I better watch for boxes down under and he can bring them back himself, ya know just jam them in the overhead compartment like people do. ;-)

As member Alfie mentioned, the best price is using USPS.
Their quotes are usually half of everyone else but you must stay below seventy-something linear inches.
Height + width + length < seventy something (I think 79 or 77)

As far as handling goes. You get all types of employees(good and bad) from all carriers.
Just pack it well and throw the dice and hope lady luck is on your side.

Like other's have said. Size is critical. If length plus girth is exceeded by even 1 inch, then the service changes from global priority mail to global express mail which costs a whole lot more. The trick is to try to shave enough off the size so it will fit within their max allowable dimensions for priority mail but then it gets sorta dicey since there is minimal protection. Check USPS.com regarding maximum dimensions for priority mail and do the math -- it makes a huge difference. If you rounded down on your measurements and the postal person rounded up, and you exceed the size by 1 inch -- uh oh.

I have had great luck with undamaged shipments to and from using USPS but it usually may take little longer

Correct. I just added that note to my post.

Online shipping calculator would only give me 2 prices. $133 or $388 :dunce:

The $133 was for a 12x12x26 box 25# - If I changed any one of those dimensions by even 1" the price would jump to $388..... So I took the 17x19x26 25# package to the post office so they could figure it out and he came back with $148 :dunce: .
