After all these years!

[Lasonic TRC-920]

When I started collecting I thought my head was going to explode! I never knew that so many radio's had been manufactured over the years and when I got to this site I was in sensory overload. Big radios with HUGE speakers, little radio's packed to the gills with logic decks and features on top of features.

But when I saw this....

In my mind's eye, this was IT!

Looking like a control panel at NASA's Cape Canaveral launch center, it flashed me back to my youth watching footage of serious faced men, bathed in cigarette smoke, pushing buttons and throwing switches on rows and rows of control consoles. LIVES WERE ON THE LINE!

The JVC 3090EN here came from member Reli. He was kind enough to listen to my "One that got away story" and how long I have lusted after this box. After the Vegas meet, we made a deal and this weekend, while he was down for the Venice meet, he delivered it in person, avoiding any risk of it getting damaged.

AND IT IS PERFECT!

Holy feck! Yes that looks well sweet. Iv not seen many posts/things about these. What they sound like? Looks heavy. Can you input anything to the tv. Playing a Sega Master system on it would be cool

The sound is very good! Solid thumpy bass, full and rich. reasonably loud. Very surprising. It's smaller than you think it would be. Tomorrow I will get pictures of it with the M70. It is smaller. But sounds VERY JVC-ish (meaning good).

Of course there is no broadcast TV any more. But I am working on that. I have 6-7 boombox TV and small TV's and I want to figure out a way to use them.

Yes, hooking up a gaming console would be fun! Would love an Atari 2600.

Ideal for customisation - replace old tv with new tablet or flat mini tv.

What a beauty I have never seen that model before, it looks huge so I was surprised it is smaller than the M70. Finding a way to utilise the TV part would be awesome.

Like Tre said above, i always assumed this was a huge box.
Looking closer at the pics and really looking at the cassette door in relation to the speaker grills, can give you a good idea of the size of the box
I like how this dosnt stick out at the back too much like some tv boxes. One large protrution at the back really annoys me for some reason but this box stays nice and flat

That was the first thing that came to my mind, but after getting my hands on it, it's in too good of condition to cut into. They made this in silver too. Reli got this shipped to the US from Germany, so I will look for another, maybe in rough condition to customize. I have had a few radio's repaired from a TV repairman in Southern California and I spoke to him about what it would take to put an LCD screen and digital tuner, but he sad "oh no, no no! You can't cut up the classics". But I think he would do it for me if I really asked.
he told me he would show me how to hook up digital TV to it.
The other thing is, this thing is a BRICK! It's from the same era as the M70 and we all know that thing is wall to wall components inside. This is smaller and heavier, so I have no desire to open it. I will take it to get it serviced.

What I am really looking for is 1970's-80's TV repairman test broadcast equipment that broadcasts the old analogue signal for short distances. I have a bunch of small TV's I would love to display this way.

It's flat in the back, but they achieved this by making the whole thing a fat little football (american football, not soccer )

But in the end, the sound quality is top notch. Much better than the M70. Not as loud, but still LOUD! Plenty loud to get the job done. It also has a Stereo Wide feature that the M70 and M90 do not have.
Other cool features include: tuning light that stays ON when you push the button, Rec/PB remote control port

If the broadcast equipment doesn't pan out, you can get an RF converter off Ebay, which would allow you to use any video source that has HDMI or S-Video outputs.

Man, I can't thank you enough. Mellymelsr was shocked you parted with it, so I guess that really says allot! ABOVE AND BEYOND MAN!

I have been going through eBay looking for the right connection, but haven't found it yet. May hold off till I get to Europe anyway since they are on the PAL system. I did just buy a full Atari 2600 system plus a bunch of games! I'm going to go blind playing on it, but should be fun!

I also wanted to mod the screen,but I just couldn't mess with a working beauty.
I added a flatscreen& chromecast wifi to this 1946 Motorola. Fun guest room TV.

This JVC was 220v,so I finally found the oddball "Belling-Lee to Coaxial" antenna adapter. Just as hard to find as pots with super-long shafts for the 1946 TV.

Needs a DTV box,RF modulator,and maybe coaxial to UHF "prongs",or adapters.Plus a powered antenna! Too much stuff to fit in this JVC.

Adding Chromecast is smaller,still needs HDMI to RCA,then RF modulator for RCA to coax. Watching your cell screen to the TV is neat.

This past weekend at the Venice meet, Reli showed up and passed her too me and of course the "ohhh's and ahhh's" came out and immediately someone says "You should mod it with a flat screen" and I said, "I don't know if I could do it" and their reply was "Send it to JVC Floyd, he can mod anything!". My next reply was "Yes, this is true, but he will probably sink it into an even BIGGER radio!"

That Phillips looks way bigger than this. Was that a color screen or B/W. I know Miles =ml= has a boombox with a color screen. I think it's a Sharp GF model.

When I first saw the pics I thought it looked like a beast, like M90 or bigger in size. I was surprised it's more the M70 size. It's a very cool looking box.
