Hello,

I changed the belts on my 777 yesterday and the first drive speed is slower and the sound less clear.

Is it normal to recalibrate speed and azimuth or is it just a poor fit of the cassette part?

thanks

I just changed belts on mine and also had to readjust motor speed and azimuth. It sounds great now ;-)

thanks baddboybill

Do you have a reliable method to adjust the azimuth and with a plastic tool through the door ?

I just use a tiny Philips head screwdriver. If there is any magnetizing then you can always demagnetize head when your done or demagnetize screwdriver first :-)

The proper way to adjust azimuth is to use an oscilloscope and test tape to ensure the heads are in proper phase alignment. The lo-tech way is to do it by ear but it's not as accurate way to do the adjustment.

Just a heads up guys the FBM 11.5 should actually be FBS 11.5 but FBM 11.5 can work. But now the SBM 6.0 will not work because of thickness and it puts way to much strain on capstan so therefore a SBS 6.0 should be used.

Yep same here - the belts noted in the General Disassembly Instructions by Fatdog are unfortunately too big. I purchased them ahead of time based on this instruction.
Is there a way to update the manual to reflect the correct types of FBS11.5 and SBS6.0 ?
This is no big deal about $20 mistake, sadly the belts are not returnable.
Just to make sure the future repairmen would avoid it. Both FBM11.5 and SBM6.0 are so wrong I decided to put back the original Sharp belts...
