Adding Wire Connectors?

Unless you plan to be in there, disassembling every other week, not sure this would be all that beneficial. It would be easier the next time around but then it was probably 25 years before it was first taken apart right? Also you would introduce a couple changes. 1 the wire color schemes would change and confuse things for someone referring to factory service documentation. 2 connectors always add opportunity for connection issues. Nothing beats long term reliability than a good well soldered connection.

That all makes pretty good sense. Personally if I were to ever do it I wouldn't have any wire color change. Meaning I'd take out the new wires from their crimps and introduce the boomboxes wires.

But the connection issues were something I was curious. And how often needing to open them up. Since I'm newer to this, my boxes have all needed work so I've opened them quite a bit... but don't have long-term experience with them to know how often they usually are maintained.

I suppose that could depend on environment and usage?

Every box seems to be different. Most of my boxes have been buttoned up since I finished them. But I do open the C100 and the M9990 every so often.

My C100 tuner needs a spritz of tuner cleaner when it starts to get loud (usually in one particular section of the dial). I've sprayed it twice in the last 2 2/3 years. It only takes a few minutes, so I don't mind.

My M9990 needs its record switch cleaned about once a year, when it starts to "machine gun." I suppose I could de-solder it and open it for a better cleaning, but I'd rather not risk damaging the switch, since it really wasn't designed to be serviced or repaired.

I'm not really sure why these two boxes need to be opened regularly, but I'd imagine it has to do with their long-term storage before I owned them. All my other boxes have been closed, barring any tweaks and mods, since their service.
I use both (well, all my boxes, really) quite regularly. Not only to keep things moving, but also to torture my neighbors.
I've toyed with the idea of adding connectors too, but haven't found it necessary.

Cool. Well thanks for the input guys. That confirms my reasoning for it not really being needed. Seems it would be convenient though if these usually needed regular maintenance/inspection.
