I saw somewhere where someone added LED's to their boomer that were wired to the speakers so that they went to the beat of the music.

Can anyone post a link to that?

Thanks!

I always worry it'll burn the amp out with all that extra load??? is this a safe mod long term?

Let me qualify this by stating I don't know anything about electronics apart from current needs conductivity to work but if I was going to do this I'd mount a separate little battlery pack somewhere in the case to power the extra LEDs, much like how most radios with LCD clocks use a separate battery to power them.

If you're customising a radio as far as drilling holes in it to mount LED's in then it's not a lot more effort to give them their own power supply. Most radios would allow for a panel to be cut out of the back or side that could mount a small battery cover to make for easy replacement of them too.

Just some thoughts!

I guess the tricky part is getting them to pulsate with the music.
I believe hooking them to the speakers directly and because they need barely any voltage to run Led's they will automatically dance to the beat as the music is played...I am not sure if you need an in line resistor or not but I am sure Norm (Superduper) would know. :hmmm: :-D

Yeah I'm pretty limited with this stuff. Back in the day I did teach myself how to add channels to CB radios from books, but it wasn't too involved. All you had to do was find a steady 8 volt power source, run that to a a few toggle switches and a few of the the pins on the PLL chip that controlled frequency generation. Flip one toggle and it would jump you 10 channels up. Flip the other one and it jumped you 40 channels up, or something like that. The PLL guide book told you what pins depending on the certain chip that you had in any given CB. I'm getting off topic, yet again. I'm pretty good at that I guess, lol!

add channels to CB radios

Off topic but that brings back memories - I added a UK FM board to an old GE AM CB radio to allow FM 27.60125 thru 27.99125 which was the allocation (originally) in the UK when CB was legalised back in 1981. :-P

That's really cool Sounds beyond my capabilities for sure tho, lol

This is the CB I have right now. Not my video tho:

Mine has a whacky channel selector. It will only change the channels up, and not down.

Anyway, I'm hoping more people can give some light on the adding LED's subject, pun intended, LOL!
