Hi all, I recently picked up a Technisonic TC-999 for a good price but it needs belts and a few indicator lights replaced. I got the belts using the notes of a member on here who repaired one and I dropped it off with my tech. I was thinking that also since he will be in there I could possibly add some backlighting to the tuner window as there is none supplied from the factory which is kind of odd considering that it is such a flashy box.

I have seen a few nice examples looking through some posts on the site and the best I have seen is a JVC M70 that had both amber and white LED’s. I presume amber is the color that the box originally had for backlighting and someone added the white. Anyway, has anyone documented a good method of adding backlighting and also what would be a good color to add knowing the look and color scheme of the TC-999.

Any comments appreciated!

Thanks,
Luke

The best tuner lighting IMHO are from m70 and some Sanyos because they use a full clear plastic in front of tuner that gives even glow. On the TC 999 it has a clear tuner needle that would be perfect to add a small light and would only light needle with dial in that area but will look more even without light shadows. Just my opinion 👍

You wouldn't be able to make it look like an M70 since the M70 has the numerals printed on an acrylic plate that carries the light all the way across. The TC999 doesn't have an acrylic plate so it's more difficult to make LED's look good.

M70 originally was a dull incandescent bulb, that's why it looked amber. What you saw was someone who replaced that with a yellow LED and also a white LED for the meters.

Yeah I think everyone is right about the backlight on the TC-999. The light for the needle looks sharp though so maybe I will go that route. Thanks everyone!
