Hi Guys,

First time poster here. I have been working many hour trying to restore my VZ2000.

I bought it about a month ago at a garage sale, and have since used this forum and guide to get her going.

But I have run into some really annoying problems.

1. It originally had a snapped cassette door pin. I have used cheap epoxy, but due to impatience and cold weather, it has not lasted and I once again have to open it all up again to access the cassette and do it properly and be patient. Are there any products I should be using?? I actually lost the small piece of plastic pin, but have a metal rod from a keychain which is pretty much identical, the same size I plan on using.

2. Before finding the handy strip down guide on here somewhere, I thought I could remove the PCB cables that connect the LP player to the PCB and in doing so pulled the solder a bit and made a small crack in the board (nothing near the circuits i don't think, just a very small one to the top corner. I have resoldered the joins on the circuit board to the PCB.

3. The LP player lit up, but only seemed to work when I pressed the reverse button. I have since tore it all down, replaced the turntable belt and pinion belt and gave it all a thorough clean, including the shell. Was very dusty and dirty throughout. Now all assembled, the LP player does not light up and there is no movement :(

4. There are some attached photos, one of the VZ and the other of 2 Miscellaneous bits I have left over, the cog/ground looking piece was loose in the unit when I got it, the other block I think might be fore the bottom headphone/speaker board on the bottom for protection?

So the positives are - It plays radio fine, both speakers work and the rebelted cassette deck works great (at least before I broke the rod right hand side rod and lost it somehow today! GAH!).

Just no power to the LP player which is a real bummer for me as that is what I wanted to use this for the most :(.

As per another post on here, I had a look at the 'leaf switch' as I heard it might be the cause, looked all fine, I just sprayed some contact cleaner on it.

I am pretty much at a brick wall as to what to do next so any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have given the box to a friend of a friend who is more tech savvy, and also found a replacement box a fellow uses for display purposes and he has allowed me to try his deck.. which at least powers on.

So have not given up, hopefully between 2 decks we can get one working!.. Have managed to break the pause button by accident, but thats nothing a bit of glue can't fix. Tape is working well too.
