I originally purchased this JVC RV-B99BK in July of 1998 as a birthday present to myself. At the time I went into the Good Guys store where I purchased it looking for a radio I could use in my garage, because I spent most of my free time tooling around with my 93 Mazda RX-7 Twin Turbo I owned at the time. The display wall in the store had numerous radios of different sizes that I played around with. When I came across this funny looking tube-shaped radio, I really didn't expect much. To my surprise the bass was so explosive I looked around to see if someone had turned some other stereo on. It cost around $400 at the time but well worth it. Since purchasing it in 98 it has been completely abused. My son tore the cassette door off. It has been kicked, dropped, and anything else you can think of. It had overspray from when I stained my fence all over it. At one point I considered tossing it if not for the fact that everything still worked and it sounds so dang good...oh yeh, and the speaker grills are caved in. So after all my boombox projects I decided to fix up "Old Faithful". I decided to paint her in a Tungsten Gray pearl with Brilliant Silver Pearl for the trim...I even painted the remote to match... :-D ...here are the before and after pics..

That's a really nice paint job! I like the original Kabooms such as yours, they look so cool in my opinion. I think they will become a some sort of a 'grail' in years to come, a grail of our time that people in 15 years from now will be very proud to own. The Kaboom proves that even these days manufacturers can still make radios that are built like tanks.

If I hadn't looked at the username and avatar, I would have sworn that Uncle Ed wrote that.

That thing came out SWEET!

Great color choices....Did you get the deck door worked out again?

I got a replacement door and spring from member TMR and now everything works perfectly!!... :-D

Thanks Masterblaster, I tried to use a color combination that would make it look original.
