Looking to upgrade the BT card in my box to one that has button controls. I ordered a couple of these from eBay...

It plays music over BT, over a USB block device (a key or HDD), over a SD card or it can be used as a USB sound card. It also sports a remote control and it can be controlled with hardwired buttons.

I installed one in my beaten Viking in order to test it.

I've removed the now useless tape counter to make room for a USB port and the remote sensor.

Testing with a USB key. Works perfect !

It can also control my iPod over BT. Therefore I can replicate my previous iPod implementation in a completely different manner. The iPod is not wired so it won't self charge, however the front USB port can be used as a charging port.

That's very cool ! I guess I could make some sort of sleeve or bracket for the iPod - or not - still quite impressed with that card. And the sound quality is good too !

Nice...I like the use of the tape counter gaps, keeps it as stock looking as possible. So do the tape keys control it?

That is farkin' DOPE!!! The remote sensor & USB tape counter MOD really looks like it's stock. Nice work! Plus the integration of multiple media types is another level up from a normal bluetooth upgrade...

Yes, the tape keys work !

This is my prototype, in the end I want to mount this BT board on my identical Prosonic box. Its counter is still in use, so I will mount the USB A connector on the rear panel but I still need to find a proper spot for the IR sensor. Behind one of the mics grills perhaps ? Or maybe around the tuning window ? What do you suggest ?

For the IR, I would try to source a round cover plate from some tv/vcr/audio device and retrofit it on the bottom, near the headphone outs/mic inputs. Or to the very left on the lower front plate.

I made a slide-in bracket out of perfboard leftovers. The holes proved very helpful for making straight cutouts, especially when one doesn't have all the tools / skills to do so.

I'm quite satisfied with the result. It fits the iPod quite snuggly and the little notch I made to accomodate the camera that's protruding from the back acts as a stopper so the screen is very easily aligned.

It has no functionality but to mimick the Prosonic (now Diebold !). With the tape buttons operating the iPod over BT, it's not far from the same !
