Hello, Everyone:

I live in Olympia, WA, about 60 miles South of Seattle with my three kids and husband of 17 years.

I grew up in Spokane in the 1980s and was that kid in school always buying music and talking about the new albums vs old albums of so and so. I kept about 50 casettes of whatever I was listening to at any given time in my bag to listen on my portable tape player. I was always looking for the better head phones, best audio, and combed through the pawn shops to add to my music collection. I kept Energizer in business.

My dad owned a JVC RC-M70. I LOVED THAT STEREO!!! I repededly tried any means possible to get my meathooks permanently on that machine.... I begged, borrowed, and thought about stealing, but no.... I was recently thinking about it and decided to try and find one, because their sonic quality is/was AMAZING. I started looking for one of those JVCs a few weeks ago and found they are quite popular. I can see why, though. It was an amazing sounding stereo I kept begging my dad to give to me. He never did. Rats. I'm not sure if I can afford one, right now before the holidays. Luckily, my husband is AMAZING with repairing electronics, so maybe I can pick up one needing some repairs. Scary, though. Not sure how available parts are for these units.

My husband and I are musicians. I'm primarily a singer, but can play cello and electric bass. My husband is an AMAZING guitarist of all genres. We have a mini-studio in our basement and are always trying to finish what we started. It's challenging with kids and work, but still pretty fun.

My sweet husband is thinking when I get one of these, it won't sound as great as I remember, mostly due to our studio set up with nice sounding audio and how long it's been (about 20 years) since I've heard it. I know he's wrong. I can't wait to prove it, too. I have some ideas about recording through it and mic-ing it. Not sure what piece/pieces, but I'm well aware it's not meant for that. I could even record a track digitally, then aux out from pro-tools into the unit much like you would with a re-amp.

Wouldn't that be a weird experiment?

Anyway, Enough about me....

Welcome hollyrockets and thanks for sharing that great story. :-)
You picked a great boomer to look for, there were a lot made so there are a lot still available year round. The M70 was and is popular for a good reason, it's a great looking and performing classic boomer.

HOLA Holly!

I just hope that when you do find it, you decide to stay here with us and share some time, it's FUN!!!
Btw, I'm a singer also, I have my own a cappella group (male quintet) I'm the one who does the Vocal Percussion.

Take care

Thanks, everyone!

So I really like sparkly and shiny things and discovered the much loved/hated discolite. Wow. What a shiny beast. HA HA!!!!

I actually would love to own one. I probably would need a broken one as these have probably hit the record for high price. :)

For you techies, here's a really neat project that reminds me of the discolite, but could be a light show using a microphone and LEDs. It's a 3-color spectrum analyzer.... Anyone who makes something based on these ideas should turn on their boombox walls and make a video of the LED/boombox show!

Hi Holleyrockets! Welcome to the site!

M70 is a great choice as a boombox. I also think they sound pretty good and they have one of the best cassette mechanisms in them that was ever built into boomboxes. Mine is capable of excellent recordings.

Good luck with your hunt!

Welcome to the site hollyrockets, there's a wealth of information here along with some good guys. Watch out for the Florida contingent though, they are a little "touched" in the head.

Us Aussies are alright though.

:-D :-D :-D
