Hello, Everyone:
I live in Olympia, WA, about 60 miles South of Seattle with my three kids and husband of 17 years.
I grew up in Spokane in the 1980s and was that kid in school always buying music and talking about the new albums vs old albums of so and so. I kept about 50 casettes of whatever I was listening to at any given time in my bag to listen on my portable tape player. I was always looking for the better head phones, best audio, and combed through the pawn shops to add to my music collection. I kept Energizer in business.
My dad owned a JVC RC-M70. I LOVED THAT STEREO!!! I repededly tried any means possible to get my meathooks permanently on that machine.... I begged, borrowed, and thought about stealing, but no.... I was recently thinking about it and decided to try and find one, because their sonic quality is/was AMAZING. I started looking for one of those JVCs a few weeks ago and found they are quite popular. I can see why, though. It was an amazing sounding stereo I kept begging my dad to give to me. He never did. Rats. I'm not sure if I can afford one, right now before the holidays. Luckily, my husband is AMAZING with repairing electronics, so maybe I can pick up one needing some repairs. Scary, though. Not sure how available parts are for these units.
My husband and I are musicians. I'm primarily a singer, but can play cello and electric bass. My husband is an AMAZING guitarist of all genres. We have a mini-studio in our basement and are always trying to finish what we started. It's challenging with kids and work, but still pretty fun.
My sweet husband is thinking when I get one of these, it won't sound as great as I remember, mostly due to our studio set up with nice sounding audio and how long it's been (about 20 years) since I've heard it. I know he's wrong. I can't wait to prove it, too. I have some ideas about recording through it and mic-ing it. Not sure what piece/pieces, but I'm well aware it's not meant for that. I could even record a track digitally, then aux out from pro-tools into the unit much like you would with a re-amp.
Wouldn't that be a weird experiment?
Anyway, Enough about me....
