A new friend has arrived : PHILIPS D 8884 !

Hello everyone
So here is a new beloved cd boombox of mine : the very nice looking PHILIPS D 8884
It's in great shape, fully working, just need a bit of cleaning
I pretty much like the sound of it, warm and balanced, and the look is just fabulous !!
Well I love it !!

I am getting much more into later boxes now and especially CD boxes.

This is a very nice looking unit, its been on my radar for a little while. I must admit I am pretty jealous.

I had an aka of this until recently and i deeply regret selling it, its just such a cool portable, so much in a little package. Great find mate.

Ugerly or not? I can't decide but it certainly an interesting example of a CD box but the designer could have put a little more effort in. I'd buy one but I can't see it taking a front place in a display.

How is the sound? I'm of the impression that the sound quality of many Philips boxes is greatly underrated.

well the sound is really much better than a lot of you think....
when adjusting the eq correctly, it gets really loud and sounds really good, been listening to a lot of cds today including Pat Benatar, IAMX, Lloyd Cole, Tina Turner, David Bowie, Donna Summer etc and I must admit that it sounds real good!! This was made in 1987 and of course it sounds pretty good with 80's music but not only
Of course not made for techno and boomy music, but overall I'm really pleased with it

Made in 87!!!! That's an early CD radio then. I think it looks fine. I mostly interested in the cassette boomers but wouldn't mind that if I came across it.

I like the vertical CD boxes. They get lost in the shuffle but are unique and came and went fast.

I love this model, love the vertical cd, cd mechanism is really good in this one
Sounds really great especially with rock music (Iron Maiden, Megadeth , Led Zeppelin etc...)
Also love that it plays most of my engraved cds, which is great
Overall this cd bbox has a nice quality feel about it, it really grows on me, I listen to it everyday !!!
