After experiencing the awesome power of the Sony FH7 I was wanting to add a 3 way FH to my collection. I found this one on ebay and the owner was asking $180 for it...I put in an offer for $120 and got it. It arrived very dusty but without any nicks or scratches. After a brief cleaning she looks minty fresh... :-D ... The tuner light is out but everything else functions. In comparing it to the FH7 this unit is just as powerful but has much deeper bass and the 3 way sound stage is magnificent. This is easily my best sounding unit. This is my first box with square woofers and these things pound!! The outside is made of some sort of rubber and the center a very firm plastic and they are in perfect condition. So I must say I am already loving the new addition to the family.

...this has been an amazing year for me as a collector but this was a true bargain. The pics don't do it justice. It is in extremely good shape....and I love the way the spectrum analyzer dances. This is one fantastic portable!!

...I got very lucky as the APM surrounds are perfect!...these speakers handle an 808 beat like it was designed for it...and yet it has beautiful highs and wonderful sound separation. Can't say enough about it.

...no not horns...2' round tweets...this Sony has the sweetest sound-stage I have heard in a portable. The depth and richness of the sound really surprised me. Everyone should have a chance to hear one. .. :-D

Nice!! It's good to know people are starting to appreciate the three (er, five?) piece machines! :-)

Very nice melly.

I still need to add one of the Sony FH's to my collection. I remember seeing them sold around here in the 80's but I've yet to run into one of these gems in the wild.

i am a huge fan of these and this style of box.
the ones i have just sound amazing. i was pretty lucky to get them for the price i paid for them i have to say if i cam across another in the wild i would for sure grab one.
one of mine also has issues with the display. i think that there is a ribbon cable inside that is to blame.
sometimes it will shake itself from all the bass it comes on again.
these big sony boxes do sound like big stereos. the way the bass hits with the sat button pushed in is not like a kaboom.
i mean its hard deep and thudding bass . it does not have that warm kaboom vibe to it.
the radios on mine get very good reception as well.
they just blow your mind once you get them going a bit and well they drop jaws of all who come and hear them.

...I agree, the sound is jaw dropping. Listening to music on this is like hearing it for the first time. Every day I listen to it I am more impressed... :-D

there is something about the way these sonys handle the sound that sounds very good. when i first got mine i plugged it in and was like that sounds pretty good. then i noticed the eq was all set flat and the sat button was not pushed in.
once that was corrected the thing nearly blew my molars out of my mouth.
all music can sound great on these. mine all have shortwave recievers on them and you know back then sony was really making great shortwave radios. they get really decent shortwave reception.
i sometimes worry if i will blow the surrounds on them but there is a web page online that shows you how to rebuild them.
this was the high water mark i think along with some of those fancy pioneer beasts with flat woofers in techno dazzle from the boombox age.
the eq meters are super cool and the wieght of these is really impressive too.
