Added a couple more finds to my collection!

Got my first Panasonic in the shape of an RX5250. Seems to be quite a lot of love for these beasts and I can see why. Its got a heavy quality feel and after a real good clean and a load of switch cleaner is now all working. Sounds great on radio, tape runs spot on, line in works good and loud! Got the usual wear and tear but nothing major and I love its style. Really impressed with Pannys, might keep an eye out for more!

Then in a moment of madness I decided one Philips D8444 wasn’t enough so got another! Now got one in silver and one in graphite...this new one is spot on all working (apart from FM stereo LED doesn’t light). Again gave it a good clean inside and out. Has a few scratches on the handle but other than that is in really good condition. Missus isn’t quite so impressed about me getting two of the same model though! :annoyed: ...but they’ll look fine side by side on my shelf!!

Excellent additions, Simon! A few years ago I saw a pretty dirty but complete one of those Panny 5250s being used by some blokes fitting a new shop. I had my eye on it for a few days, then finally asked if I could buy it from them or swap it for another radio they could use, but the one who seemed in charge flatly refused. He said "It suits us fine", he just wouln't budge. :annoyed: I took a really grainy mobile phone picture of it through the window, I still have it somewhere. I have a 5500 which is pure quality with great looks, I love it , but it seriously lacks in the bass department. I wanted a 5250 because I'd seen so many people on the forums raving about how good they sound etc. Plus I really like the LEDs on it!

It's unusual to see a grey version of the Philips box, because most I've seen on the forums etc are silver. Most grey ones I see are the Magnavox branded ones. These boxes suit the grey better than silver in my opinion.

Great boxes, congrats!

Yeah! Congradz on both! Especially digging the panasonic. :surf: It only has phono though right no line in?

It's got both...DIN for line in and RCA for phono, then a switch to flick between the two. DIN gives proper line in, no having to press play or record. And it comes through loud and proud! :-D

Thanks mate. The Panny is a keeper as it looks good and sounds fab  . Nightmare to see a wild one kept captive! I agree the D8444 looks even more gorgeous in the darker colour....in hindsight I think it might be a bit of overkill getting both! ...so might trade/sell it in the near future to get something else I don't already have!

Just to show that the Panasonic has a line in and a phono. Despite saying REC/PLAY under the DIN socket you don't actually have to press rec or play on the tape deck, you just select line in on the tape/radio/line-in selector on the main controls :-D

That Philips is one of my favorites. Looks stunning. How does it sound?

It's not bad but people expect more from it based on its awesome good looks...it's a bit like when a woman meets David Beckham for the first time and expects him to sound like Gregory Peck... ;-)

:-D it's a really good sounding box I reckon, I'm really pleased with it, probably helps the acoustics that it's quite a deep unit. I thought that vz was the love of your life?! :-D
