At the West Coast Boombox Meet, Reli and I made a trade...He got one of my Toshiba RT 9990SM's and I got

General Electric 3-5286A

Crown CSC-850C

I explained to the guys at the meet what this GE meant to me. It's one of those "Childhood Memory" boxes. One of 4 must haves. I now have 3 of them, The TRC-920, Realistic SCR-8 and this GE 3-5286A. The only other radio is a little mono Sanyo that I actually could have gotten all day when I was in Japan, but for the same price I brought home some other grails ;-)

Now, the Crown is something else entirely....This is going to go into full rotation. It has some seriously deep bass....PERFECT for crankin METAL  :chris920:

Hey Blu_Fuz.....I think we're gonna be talkin' custom strap....You still in the business?

Thanks allot Hans....I hope your happy with that Toshiba :-D

Totally rockin, Chris!! Well played!

Rock On.

Thanks man....I was playing some cassettes on the GE last night....really brings back some serious memories! This box is smaller than my minds eye remembers it, but it has so many features for a smaller than mid sized box. Great machine, Love It!

Good trade Chris, I really liked that 850 at the meet. The bass it was putting out was really good and the overall sound was nice as well plus I think it's great looking even if it's a bit plain. Getting a childhood box always has extra meaning to it even if they weren't a big booming box, I was thrilled when I got each one of my childhood boxes again, even it they can be stomped by many of my other boxes they aren't going anywhere.

Nice trades both ways!

You know I'm in for working out some straps for ya bud

COOL, I'll be opening this radio up today to see how to attach the strap. I will measure to see the width as well.

What do you think color wise would work. I first thought black, but why not spice it up a little, as long as it ain't pink or purple

Yeah, it has solid bass for sure. I used to think "What the hell, no handle" But after carrying it around, it's no big deal. It totally makes sense.

It's so funny, even though the GE is small, when I thought I was the Sh@t walking around with my little mono box, this radio was HUGE to us.

I remember my buddies dad who owned this radio let my friend take it into his room to listen to an AM radio station that broadcast the reading of the first STAR WARS books in the late 70's early 80's some time. We thought we were so cool, we used to try to invite girls over to see how cool we were because WE had access to such sophisticated electronics

"You see that baby...Dolby....That's right honey, you know you like it" :sin:

Glad you'll enjoy them Chris! It was good to see you get something with memories attached to it.

Love the Crown's deep dish look, I've got another one at home that I'm hoping to customize with some chrome & LED highlights.

NICE! With the VU's and the BIG dial, LED's would look great, please post that up.

Well, I opened up the Crown and tested the tweeter and once I moved the 50mv cap around it started working! :-D Now I need to dexoit it and I'm good to go!

Here is the Crown. Got the VU's working, the tweeter working, hit it with some Deoxit, all the switches are good. Still need to fix a few small things, belts and what not but I think I will be taking this on the road with the band at the end of the week.

I wish my video camera recorded better sound, because this thing sounds GREAT!

Nice, Chris! Would be a great candidate for a paint project too! I'm thinking some grafitti would surely liven it up, if done right.

I was looking at it thinking it would be so easy to do a paint job :hmmm: More to come on that! :-D
