Hi. I'm almost done bringing my C-100ff back to life. There are a few issues though. I'm starting to get fed up with it. The first issue is that it won't record. Yes, you can hear something, but it's minimal. I've noticed that when set to metal tape you can hear more. The VU indicators respond correctly when recording is on and the manual button is turned on.
The playback function works fine. Plays clear and loud (Top deck plays well too) The head, pinch roller etc. are cleaned. The circuit connections according to the schematic provided by "caution" look as they should. The play/record switch has been cleaned with deoxidant, as have all the other switches. They've been cleaned as best I could without taking them apart. The second issue is the famous lack of stereo and the indicator light when listening to the radio. I've looked at VR001 and VR002. They look like someone has replaced them at some point. I've checked them with a multimeter set to 200k. Vr002 indicates 2.5 and at this value the stereo lamp began to light up, but only one channel still plays. Turning it changes the values minimally. Vr001 shows a value of 0.4 and does not respond to changing the position. Of course, I sprayed both potentiometers with deoxidizing spray. This VR001 optically looks as if it were rusty. The third problem is some kind of magic. Normally, when using the balance knob while listening to speakers, everything is fine, but when listening through headphones, some miracles happen. The left channel mixes with the right. When set to the center, the low tones are missing. When set to the left or right channel, both are still audible, but the low tones return. It is difficult to describe, because I use an online translator. I checked these headphones by connecting them to my laptop and they seem to behave normally. I mention this because it may be a clue. The system seems to be connected as it should. I am tired of working on it and would like to finish it. Any advice? Overall, this C-100ff was in pretty good cosmetic condition. There is a cassette door, tray, etc. Looking at its PCB I noticed that many of the capacitors on the AMP board had been replaced. Looking at the schematic, it looks like they were replaced with the correct ones. There is also a problem with the MSSI solenoid core being missing which some idiot lost and I wrote about this earlier (Beware I am using an online translator)
