My Lasonic 935 will shudder or vibrate if I push the volume up. The actual case of this model was of course typically post '83 meaning totally plastic. It has good size cones that really move. I'm wondering if this is just to be expected with a large plastic box with lots of bass. It would be hard for me to believe they were designed this way. Do any other owners have this problem?

Curiously this buzzing seems to be coming from the right hand side of the box. Its not missing any screws. The box itself kind of visually vibrates when I hear the noise. I suppose this could also be something inside not tightly torqued down. Has anyone come up with an easy way or procedure to track down the source of rattles or vibrations without getting close enough to blow your eardrums out?

Jovie if you open that baby up you'll notice wires... a big mess of wires that rest on the case, the woofer cages, the pcbs... everything. I had a very similar problem with my 975. All I had to to was make sure every wire was neatly secured and the rattling was gone. Hope it's as easy as that for you too. :-D

Securing the wires and using a Dynamat type product will help a lot. Some say the dynamat will get rid of all that excess rattling so I have some waiting to go in my BBX when it finally works. Good luck and let us know the outcome of yours. - JOE

:agree: :agree:

Yeah, what they said. As for whether they were built this way, just keep in mind that Lasonics were not considered the best quality boxes out there at the time.

Thanks guys! I'll need to go inside for a look.I suppose that out of place wires could be left that way from a previous box surgery. It's nice to know these boxes actually were quite tight from the factory.

As for the speakers,I think they're OK. The vibration starts at below half volume. Its not really noticeable with rock but is a problem with the bass heavy stuff.

I've considered something like Dynamat for extra sound deadening but it would have to be something cheaper.Any ideas?

The 935 IS a thumper ! I was lucky enough to find one fully functional (99%) at a good price.Only the clock has problems (missing LED segments). The top surface is scuffed up but the rest looks fairly new .It even has its original antennae.

Here's a picture before I replaced a couple of cassette keys:
