As you may know i dont have much luck with boxes :sadno: but i had the 880 apart earlier (as the deck was dead)

Basically all i did was spray some contact cleaner into the motor thrugh the speed ajust whole amd reasemble the deck,

Now she is going as good as ever   :surf: :-)

I have a question, as far as i know you have something inside the motor (the brushes and these need to make contact with whateaver (not sure) to work so my question is is it possible to change those brushes (if thats the right term) on the motor?

I am over the moon that she is going again but not sure how long this fix will last for ideas welcome thanx :-)

Sounds like you might have lucked out Tim. Maybe the brushes were just dirty and spaying them cleaned them up for now.
Here is what the inside of a cassette motor looks like. :-)

Thanks Tim. :-D
The motor is sealed, but it can be opened up and repaired as I have shown in my picture.
I'm sure that the brushes are not a serviceable item and avaliable from any source.  :sadno:
The only thing you might do is take the motor apart "CAREFULLY" and see if the brushes might match a junker motor.
I've noticed most of the motors have similar brushes to the motor I have shown.

Yes ,I wouldn't mess with it unless it screws up again. :nonono:
Who know, maybe you'll have a different motor by then.

very nice skippy, very nice. now i am itching to open one up!

Aiwa's in general are'nt the boxes you want the itch to open up. Hopefully your Aiwa works for a long time, the alternative is a bit of a PITA.

hell, I've had my 880 open so many times I could do it with my eyes closed!!, lol

That doesn't mean they're easy to work on. :-P
The biggest PITA for Aiwa's is that they hard wired everything, no plugs. :nonono:  :sin:  :dunce:

I was lucky with mine it just needed new belts and than I found the standoff where the screw for the bracket that holds the pulley that damps the cassette deck door had broken, but that was repaired using just a longer screw

ahardb0dy Wasn't it your aiwa that jumped of a shelf or something like that, what damage was done? and how did you repair it?

yes, the front half of mine fell off my work bench and hit the concrete floor, the corners broke off and I fixed it by super gluing them back on. Was speaking to Frank ( hemiguy) about it and showed him the pics, he said it wouldn't be to hard to fix and blend in and paint, but for now I want to keep it original. I'm not looking to paint it and make it look better than it was when it was new.

Nice thing was when I brought it back down here to Florida from my dad's house in NY, everyone was saying the surrounds would probably be shot but they were all perfect! It was stored in dad's basement for about 12 years in his cedar closet.

Must have been a bean counter decision Tim, the only reason not to connectorize is to save a few pennies.
At least that's the only reason I can think of.
