Hey all, not been on here for a while hope your all well :-)

So ive just won a Sharp GF-767 on ebay, i think its going need a little bit of tlc cosmeticley but mechanically i think its sound, at least i hope.

Ive never actually seen a 767 in the flesh much less heard one. Ive seen pics of the 767 and the 777 and they look the same, also is there not a GF-1000 that also looks pretty similar.

So what are the major differances between these models, is one a much better spec than the other?

Cheers guys, hopefully pics in the next 48 hours :santa: :santa:

Some facts regarding the GF-767:

GF-767 has piezo-electric tweeters (might as well not have any at all).

It only has one VU. :-/

GF-767 doesn't have subwoofer crossover regulators, APLD buttons, mix/mic input, Tape 1 monitor, mic fader, tape fader, no badges on the blue grilles

APLD was not used on the GF-767. The GF-767 uses APSS. The difference between them is that APLD counts number of blanks between the "programs" and stops after some certain user-set number while APSS (PLAY+FF/REW) stops at the first blank that occurs.

Thanks Fatdog, You sound almost like you have a bit of a downer on this unit
Does it has the lesser features cos its an earlier model, or just a cheaper model :hmmm:

No downer on the GF-767. Just the piezo tweeters. ;-)

The 767 is every bit the 777 except for the differences mentioned. I almost forgot to mention that the grilles are a blue color and the 767 is rarer than the 777. :-)

GF-777 is a 1981 model, and GF-767 is its formal replacement, a 1982 model. They still kept making GF-777 after 1981, but the GF-767 was their oficial flagship after 1982. Like Bobby said, GF-767 is a simplified version of GF-777, and while it has the same dimensions as GF-777 - it weighs less. 11.2 kg for G-767 versus 11.8 kg for GF-777

Check out the links for more specs :-)

Thanks for the replys guys, vladi, i will check those links later

Saxonman, i threw in a bid of 101.99 with about 30 mins to run. You know as well as me that 767's and 777's often sell on ebay uk for alot more than this. I fully expected to get sniped straight away, it wasnt untill about 5 secs left that i thought i might actually get this.
Unfortunatly the more i look at the pics i think its going to be rough :'-(

yes it will be at that price but still it all works and the crack can be sorted !! only concern i had for it is the chrome is gone on the tape buttons!! I had to go out so put in a bid of 90 odd if i was watching i was going to go to 120!!! I think you had a bargain!!! even tho that minty one last week only went for 186!! mine is mint and cost be 230 including postage off eby

I'd have to respectfully disagree with Vladi's assessment of the Sharp GF-767. Although the 767 may have come out a year after the 777, there is no way the 767 is the formal replacement. No manufacturer would release model numbers in reverse order. And, as Fatdog has noted, the 767 is a stripped down cheaper version, with its single VU meter, lack of subwoofer control and numerous other omitted features. I'd be more inclined to believe the 777 remained the "flagship" model with its multiple radio bands, fine tuning, stereo VU meters, subwoofer control, etc etc etc. The 767 was more than likely the affordable option. Hence, the limited production because people probably didn't feel like sacrificing all the good stuff for blue grilles.

Well, Sharp's top model for 1984 was GF-700. So maybe that was their pattern -
1981: GF-777
1982: GF-767
1984 - GF-700

Also, just for example, here's a link to GF-787, model year 1982 - it doesn't look like GF-777 at all - doesn't seem like there was much logic in model names back then :-)

But like I said - they kept making GF-777 for several years after 1981, so maybe it was still their flagship, but their top of the line 1982 model was GF-767 though, as far as I understand
