14.99 today.
its pretty damn cherry and its pretty heavy. only 50 wpc but they are pretty nice watts for the most part.
really a nice reciever for a digital unit.
toshiba sa850 .
when i first scoped it i thought it was a tuner. i went to take a look and then tried to pick it up.
woah this thing is heavy.
when i fiddled with it a bit i saw the bottom panel open up and there were all the controls. neat tone defeat and nice layout.
couldnt pass it up for that price. i mean how bad could it be i thought. was stoked to listen to it.
cant find much info about it online. i found a few minor blurbs about it here and there. i am kind of thinking they didnt sell many of these. 519 bucks for a reciever was a mid sized chunk of change. i think its a pretty neat piece of futurist minimal gear from the era which was about to come after its release.
so i dragged it home. hooked it up to the old advent larges i have kicking around here. those speakers and this amp sound really good. in fact with a turntable hooked up its wonderful.

the tuner section is not as nice as the sansui 5000x i have or the sta2000 but. it does get really good reception.

with the window up looks so minimal but still really classy.
i am partial to analog tuners but this one was really a neat piece of gear.
i wish i could find more info about it.

Wow Bill I've never seen an old Toshiba receiver before, that's a very clean understated receiver. That price seems to good to pass up, I don't think I would have walked away without it.

you know i have been listening to it for a while now and i really think this is a solid reciever. i mean its not gobs of power but. it is a really nice sounding reciever. i have no idea about the specs of this unit other than it is fifty watts per channel.
it wieghs over twenty five pounds i think but cannot be sure. when you change stations it takes a moment for the volume to come up to the level you have it set at so thats kind of well thought out.
toshiba seems to have a few recievers out there but... i cant find much information on them.
i am thinking this unit could not have been aimed at the entry level market. i dont know i mean 550 bucks in 79 was quite a bit. sure enough its not elitist high end but it really seems to be a quality piece of kit and it sounds extremely nice.

thanks man.
you know i have another minimal flip down panel piece kicking around here. a jvc ax7 and that is a really good intergrated amp.
i mean dont get me wrong i like the dials meters and needles but some of this original minimalist stuff was really nice too.

well i have hooked it up to the large advents and had it going for a couple of days now.
this amp is extremely good and after playing some records through its phono pre amp section.
there must be some interesting features to its design i wish i knew more about it .
i would put this reciever against anything with the same power output from that era of the reciever wars.
it really is that nice.
