Most if not all of us use these wires to connect our phones ipods and such to our line in on the boombox. The common ones are the red and white basic connectors. I find that they seem to be not so tight in connecting through the line in ports. What kind would you think give the tightest fit and best connection? Or what kind do you use and are totally happy with? Here is a few examples. The first is around $5 and the 3rd being around $25

The high grade cables really clamp on too tight. Stick with the lower quality ones, I do and they work just fine. That low level audio signal doesn't need much clamp force to transfer properly.

The ones you posted are too thick and stiff... They're intended for stationary home audio gear, not portable stuff that gets moved around alot.

A stiff cable puts to much side ways pressure on your MP3 player 3.5mm jack.
I've tried the sub $5 cables and they tend to stuff up after heavy use.

I decided to spend a few more dollars and get a brand name Belkin cable.

Just a beautiful cable to use and much better quality than the cheapies.

One cheapy I bought even had the colours of the RCA plugs around the wrong way!

Yep, That Belkin looks good. About time for some new cables myself. Good call.

I have a little story that is RCA related, but not boombox related. Back in the days of the "Cable man". I was living a small town, one cable company run by a family.

Was fighting with them for a few months, asking if they could carry a channel that would carry the NASCAR race and he told me no. So I told him I would be canceling my service and asked him to come over and pick up their equipment. When he arrived I was installing my new DirecTV dish on the roof. Before I could get off the roof, the bastard walked into my house and RIPPED the cable box out of my entertainment center and ripped the RCA's that went to my stereo out. The thing is, I had some high end gold plated RCA's that were so tight, it ripped the connectors off the PC board of the amp. They were still in the cable. Thankfully I was able to repair them, but I was pissed!

That was the last time I used those. No need for ultra tight connectors for me.

The issue I run into with the 3.5 mm is that there's to much plastic around the connectors that I can't use most of them on my phone with the case on it....the case prevents it from going in all the way.

True with many connectors. My IPhone 5S with case doesn't work without modification of the cable l.

The Belkin cable works fine as purchased BTW :-)

What makes the Belks more expensive? I don't see any reinforcement where the wire meets the connectors.

$12 USD shipped? What reinforcing should it have? :-)

Still a cheap cable, just better finished and reliable - good enough for me :-)

They look really nice!!

I bought the Belkin as I have a Belkin car charger for the IPhone and it has been really reliable and doesn't set off the Apple warning that I'm using a non genuine accessory. :-)

I think the lesson here is that a $8-$20 is better value than a crappy $2-$4 cable.

James... :-)

That's about the only issue I have. But it's not much of a problem for me.

I stick with whatever cables I find at thrift stores. When I get home I check of there's hopefully little to no resistance with my multimeter, and I'm happy. That is of course if they go on and off nicely.
