Earlier this summer I bought this super clean Trident.

When I opened it up for cleaning and service I found out it had 6 inch speakers with ring space adapters but could take 8 inch speakers.

So, I PM'd Superduper and asked his thoughts and he turned me on to the same speakers he used when working on my Louder Blaster project AND they were on sale for only $7.00 EACH

They were direct bolt in and solder up!

These speakers have BLACK dust covers, but I think it makes the box look a bit more sinister :sin:
They sound really great too!

From there I realized that the old speakers would fit in my Lasonic TRC-918 that had blown L30 speakers. So it got an upgrade from 5w to 10w speakers and they were direct bolt in's as well....Now that bad boy can go into full time operational duty

Nice 8 inch!! Wonder if these are available in 5.4 ohms? Or even 6 ohms. Need some in a bad way. Damn it I'll even take these in 8 ohms.

Yeah, there is a thread around here some where talking about all the variations in the 918....there are ALLOT!

Your 918 looks minty.....mine looks like it just got back from Iraq, but that just means it has been well loved

It will get lots of service now with the new speakers.

Hey Boogie, I'm sure if you contacted a speaker company, they could find you something! Or think about having yours rebuilt.

Hi guys, I just picked up a 918, but it has blown speakers.. it was only $4, I think I did well :-P

The two larger speakers are blown and crackly. I would say I'm at least 'novice' at repairs, but I just came across this site today and seems like it's time to ask the experts.

When buying new speakers for this model(same as the 918 pictured in this thread), what do I need to be looking for? I want to be able to really crank this thing in the park this Summer, so advice on upgrading would be much appreciated!

Also, the tape player only plays the tapes. It won't FF or REW.. new belts? Links?

Thanks in advance!

How did I miss this topic? Great job Chris! Now you need to update your signature...

Owlthathurts: from what I've read on here, changing the belts on the Lasonic 918 is a pain in the ass! As long as it still plays the tapes, I wouldn't mess with it..

Nice score! The speakers he is linked to are the 8" speakers for his Trident boombox. he used the tridents (which were 6's) and put them in his lasonic. The 8" peavey speakers linked to from this thread won't work in your lasonic. You need 6" or maybe 6.5? 4ohm lowish watt speakers.

Thanks! I am kind of a thrift God.. :-D

So, in this city(Portland) during the Summer, we spend our only two months out of the year with no rain drinking in the parks. I want to be able to crank this bad boy and not worry about distortion or blow the speakers again.. So you're saying I should but low ohm speakers? I know enough to replace a speaker, but I have no idea about ohms and wattage and such.

..and although my cassette collection is quite the ghettoblaster collection, I will just take your advice and leave the belts alone ;-)
