Since finding the Disco Lite my mind has not strayed from boomboxes for very long, & I've since expanded my collection.

Here it is as it now stands:

dsc02140w.jpg

The Sanyo M9994k on the top left was a little pricey, but is an awesome unit, plus it came with the original mic & mic clips, & is in mint condition.

The Phillips D8443 on the top right is pretty haggis, but I love the look of it, so I'm fixing it up, starting with a rechargable 9.6v battery pack to replace the rusted out & missing battery springs & clips.

The little silver Phillips has such a classic look, and I've been using it as my main portable unit for fishing trips & the like.

And the little black one is a nice little JVC I'm using at work, good sound for a little box & makes life easier with the digital tuner & presets.
BTW, can anyone shed any light on why the presets have to be preset every time the unit is switched off? I've searched for an auxiliary or back up battery inside it but can't seem to see anything.
The Panasonic next to it has presets & has 2 AA batteries underneath the D cells for memery, but the JVC seems to have nothing?
Any help appreciated!

Well done, BigWorm!! You're doing magnificently.

Best of luck finding more.
:agree:

You have more in 1.5 months than I had in 1 year when I started collecting.

Thanks guys, I've been on the search, checking second hand stores & checked out some second hand markets, but so far my purchases have either been from ebay or cash convertors (for non-locals Cash Convertors is a chain of pawn shops, more commonly known as crime convertors).
I'm thinking of making up a flyer for my work notice board, then distributing it to the local second hand shops to pin up behind the counter.

I've also decided that a GF-777 is my grail of choice, I can't imagine where one will possibly turn up in Adelaide, but then you could say the same about my Disco Lite.

It's funny, boombox searching gives a similar thrill to gambling, but it only costs you something when you actually win!

Hey Big Worm,

Nice work, the 9994 is a beauty I love mine

And, by the way, GF777 aren't all that uncommon in Australia. I scored mine at a vinnies and I'm pretty sure sonyapmfan did too so don't give up the search just yet!!!!!

Thanks alfie, that's good news, there's 3 vinnies not too far from my house- I hope that doesn't say too much about the area I live in!

Nice work so far
This boombox collecting 'ride' will be like a runaway train and soon you will
be wondering where you are going to put them all :-D

Did you get both mount brackets for the mics on the 9994 but only one mic ??

Yeah only one mic, plus one of the mic brackets has the sprung tab snapped off.
I'm suprised it comes with 2 mics, although it makes sense, it would make MC battles on the street much easier. :-P

Very nice!

And regarding the tuner...it was a flaw in all the digital Hyper-Bass JVC's of that ilk for the most part. I don't know the rhyme or reason. I've had a number of the PC-VXX series with a digital tuner and they all were the same, no memory off mains unless you left some D cells in. :-/

Thanks for the info!
That's a shame, but no biggie I guess, I use it at work on night shifts, which is only two days out of nine, so tuning it in at the start of the night to my prefered stations won't stress me out too much.
