i ordered a set - on monday
they arrived today
and they will be used - in case the white grills dont look as good as these
for simple starters --
and just to see if we REALLY like/love//hate the design --
the box will be just a case ONLY --
and there will be a complete m70 .. inside -
so for now -
its far from the point of installing any cool//custom meters or etc
i think - thats for tech dudes like norm or ramon , anyway

ya know --how often people try so hard to make cheap crappy plastic look like wood --
they use contact paper , veneer --and all sorts of contortions -- right ??

now --in anticipation of creating the dual 550 --with ultra shiney black & chrome
i have found and perfected a 'secret formula'............
to make gorgeous wood --look like cheap crappy plastic !!!
so - the plan WAS --to apply my technique for this 550 case........

BUT ....
to my surprise and confusion --several 'old timers' wondered into our wood shop today -
saw this case --then saw my black laquer & chrome swatches -
and ALL insisted that i would be insane to ruin these gorgeous woodgrains --with ANY paint
instead --they said --with a few nice coats of clear gloss -
the wood grains would be accented -
and the result would be a very beautiful woodie boomer
however - none of them are 'box guys'
none have ever seen a 550 -
or any plastic black & chrome box...
and all they ever do -
is to put clear varnish and/or clear laquer on wood !!!
any suggestions from you real authentic box guys ??????????

I say, painting wood is far more difficult than one would think. You will need lots of coats of filler primer first to "remove" the grain effect after painting.
But if you wanna keep true to a RC-550 theme, it MUST be black and not wood grained. Or else it will look like furniture.

a little progress this week -
case is 3/4" too deep ( thick ) -----much easier to make wood smaller than bigger
still experimenting with various matters -
like center caps and bottom trim color ( black or silver ???? )
and other stuff
