Sharp Trimate 5000 / 5P-37G speed issue

So I bought a trimate a while ago for a steal knowing the tape deck was kaput.

I tore it apart, checking the belts - everything looking good there!

It wouldn't play....

much later, I just fixed a 9696 with a capstan tube problem and figured the trimate might have the same problem.

I added a tube and success! it plays! but it plays about half speed.

Suggestions? Tube too thick? Same fuel line tubing as the 9696.

I would see if there's a speed control vr pot on or around the tape deck , these sharps usually have a tape speed adjustment screw some place.

The capstan tube problem is just for take up it doesn't control speed. I find when motors are playing slow it's the brass bushings or contacts within the motor.

I think you might be right, the more I play it the noisier the motor is getting, maybe time for a swap...
