Sharp QT-CD25 CD Problem

I have a sharp qtcd-25
The cd player will not play a disc unless it's laying on the back of the radio then it will play does anyone know what I need to do to fix the problem.

there's probably a spacer missing; foam ring top and bottom of the spindle. The pickup may also be faulty.

I think there might be something missing on the spindle maybe a magnet to hold the cd in place
because it works when you lay it down

I recently bought a Sony CFD-65 which is very similar in design to this Sharp. It wouldn't play cd's at all when I first got it, so I cleaned the laser, regreased all the mechanism, and it was still dead. Then I noticed a very small leaf switch at the bottom of the mechanism that pushes onto a flap on the cd door. Once I'd straightened it out, it worked perfectly, so it may be worth checking to see if yours functions in a similar way
