I was eyeing one of these on eBay but your description of the belt fitting process has made me think twice. Maybe too much for a noob?

Almost certainly too much if you have never done it before. I found this one really tricky and it required a good bit of patience and care. The Sharp GF boxes discussed are 100 times easier and good ones to cut your teeth on.

I'll see what i have here i could part with.
